  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The Ten Commandments or the ten amendments?

This pastor apparently has done extensive research on this and says that the U.S. Supreme Court is covering up our christian heritage. I printed out this 11 page pdf file concerning his research. One can also listen to it.

Complete hogwash. There is nothing to suggest the sculptor's letter isn't accurate. In any event, Confucious is also on the building to represent another "lawgiver"- does that represent that we were founded on Confucian philosophy? Muhammad and the Koran are also on there! Also, EVEN IF these roman numerals depict the ten commandments (despite the lack of any evidence that they do), so what? All that would represent was the artistic decision of the sculptor, nothing else.

Exactly. The parties involved, those who would actually know, say it is legit. The reason this guy says it isn't legit is simply because it doesn't "look" right.

There is one instance of the 10 Commandments, in a sculpture called "Justice the Guardian of Liberty," which includes Moses, Confucius, and Solon, and even then the focus isn't on the Commandments themselves, it's on the leaders of these great civilizations. The artist himself, Hermon MacNeil, says...
Law as an element of civilization was normally and naturally derived or inherited in this country from former civilizations. The "Eastern Pediment" of the Supreme Court Building suggests therefore the treatment of such fundamental laws and precepts as are derived from the East. Moses, Confucius and Solon are chosen as representing three great civilizations and form the central group of this Pediment.
They aren't representing Christian ideals and beliefs, they are representing the leaders of these "great civilizations."

Any instances of the 10 Commandments (of which there is only evidence of one, which I just talked about) are not there it accentuate the 10 Commandments, but to accentuate the leaders of the time and the creation of laws.

No, Steezie--

Worldnetdaily - isn't nutty but accurate and tells it like it is unlike the liberal media.
WorldNutDaily has been shown from time immemorable to be an un-reliable and biased source. They spew propaganda and half-truths spun together into an intricate tapestry of yellow journalism and false information.

They are not credible

Worldnetdaily - isn't nutty but accurate and tells it like it is unlike the liberal media.

"In fact, I very much like women and wish them well, which is precisely why I consider women's rights to be a disease that should be eradicated. [...]

The women of America would do well to consider whether their much-cherished gains of the right to vote, work, murder and freely fornicate are worth destroying marriage, children, civilized Western society and little girls. They can at least console themselves with the thought that, in the long run, it doesn’t matter what they do, because the women’s-rights ideology is an evolutionary dead end, and it is increasingly apparent that societies embracing it will not survive."

Vox Day, World Net Daily

The quote comes from guy claiming to be a "Christian Libertarian". To date, he is the first and only "Libertarian" I've ever seen who wants to eradicate women's rights and restrict 90% of the liberties that people enjoy.

"And [Bush] will be lying, again, just as he lied when he said: "Massive deportation of the people [illegal immigrants] here is unrealistic – it's just not going to work."

Not only will it work, but one can easily estimate how long it would take. If it took the Germans less than four years to rid themselves of 6 million Jews, many of whom spoke German and were fully integrated into German society, it couldn't possibly take more than eight years to deport 12 million illegal aliens, many of whom don't speak English and are not integrated into American society."

Vox Day, WorldNetDaily

I hope its not too much to ask, but I really don't think we should look to Nazi Germany for domestic policy inspiration.

"Soy is feminizing, and commonly leads to a decrease in the size of the penis, sexual confusion and homosexuality. That's why most of the medical (not socio-spiritual) blame for today's rise in homosexuality must fall upon the rise in soy formula and other soy products. (Most babies are bottle-fed during some part of their infancy, and one-fourth of them are getting soy milk!) Homosexuals often argue that their homosexuality is inborn because "I can't remember a time when I wasn't homosexual." No, homosexuality is always deviant. But now many of them can truthfully say that they can't remember a time when excess estrogen wasn't influencing them."

Jim Rutz, World Net Daily

The guy must have recieved one of those chain emails like "101 Betcha Didn't You Know's", read that soy has estrogen-like chemicals, then formed his own crackpot armchair psychological theory without doing any research whatsoever.

I wish I could find the link (I'm sure it would turn up if I had the energy to google for 5 minutes), but I remember a while back WorldNetDaily published an article called "Declaration of Independence Banned From Schools!". The article tried to say that a school prohibited a teacher from distributing copies of the declaration of Independence because it contained the words "endowed by our creator" and "Nature's god"... but, WND was lying through their teeth.

What really happened was this: a school teacher was proselytizing to 5-grade students dozens of times a day and handing out religious pamphlets like "what great leaders said about Jesus Bible". After a number of parents complained, the principle asked to see the teachers lesson plan, so the teacher through together a bunch of documents on government, the Declaration of Independence, and his religious pamphlets. The principle says the lesson plan was obvious inappropriate... WND and the Alliance Defense Fund get word of this and decietfully declare that the declaration of independence had been banned from schools.

So, I concur with all the others: WND is just a glorified blog, but not even half as credible.
