• CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Yea but you were referring to the Borg, were you not? That's ok, I think the Cybermen are cooler robots.

Now, we need a Dalick. We must exterminate.... The Dooctorrrrr......
They use such archaic characters in Dr.Who. They were created 30 some years ago. My kids remember watching him when they were little and they're in their 30's--40's. That's the original episodes.

You haven't seen the New Dr. Who and the New and Improved Cybermen and Dalicks? They aren't archaic anymore.

My parents are big Who fans and got me watching the original episodes when I was little. Every time my dad (older than you) comes over, he wants to watch one of my Who DVDs. Actually, either Who or Blake's 7.

Dad and I also fight over who gets to read the next Harry Potter when it comes out. He's too cheap to buy his own book, so he thinks I should buy it, let him read it first, then I get it. Hmmmm.

I like your dad. "Cheaps" my middle name.

So I guess you guys sat in front of the TV with channel 9 on. Most of the British Sci-Fi was on Public television before they became popular, including Monty Python.

I had a computer game a few years ago with the Monty Python theme. Can't remember the name. Guess it was just called Monty Python. Anyway I never did finish it. Didn't hold my interest.

PS: Yea I've seen the new Python episodes on Sci-Fi channell. Go figure-----I'm a Sci-Fi nut

Radidio, Python on sci-fi??? Don't you mean Dr. Who on sci-fi???

I always would watching things on PBS like the Vicar or Dibley and Red Dwarf. Of course, now the digital cable gets the BBC.. .but those aren't on it :(

So, it doesn't really fit with Lutheran theology. . .but it was funny!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
RECALL NOTICE: The Maker of all human beings is recalling all units manufactured, regardless of make or year, due to the serious defect in the primary and central component of the heart. This is due to a malfunction in the original prototype units code named Adam and Eve, resulting in the reproduction of the same defect in all subsequent units. This defect has been technically termed, "Sub-sequential Internal Non-morality", or more commonly known as SIN, as it is primarily expressed. Some other symptoms are

(a) Loss of direction
(b) Foul vocal emissions
(c) Amnesia of origin
(d) Lack of peace and joy
(e) Selfish, or violent behavior
(f) Depression or confusion in the mental component
(g) Fearfulness
(h) Idolatry
(i) Rebellion. The Manufacturer, Who is neither liable nor at fault for this defect, is providing factory authorized repair and service free of charge to correct this SIN defect.
The RepairTechnician, Jesus, has most generously offered to bear the entire burden of the staggering cost of these repairs. There is no additional fee required. The toll free number to call for repair in all areas is:

P-R-A-Y-E-R. Once connected, please upload your burden of SIN through the REPENTANCE procedure. Next, download ATONEMENT from the Repair Technician, Jesus, into the heart component. No matter how big or small the SIN defect is, Jesus will replace it with:

(a) Love
(b) Joy
(c) Peace
(d) Patience
(e) Kindness
(f) Goodness
(g) Faithfulness
(h) Gentleness
(i) Self Control Please see the operating manual, HOLY BIBLE, for further details on the use of these fixes. As an added upgrade the manufacturer has made available to all repaired units a facility enabling direct monitoring and assistance from a resident Maintenance Technician, the Holy Spirit. Repaired units need only make Him welcome and He will take up permanent residence on the premises!

WARNING:
Continuing to operate the human being unit without correction, voids the Manufacturer's warranty, exposing the unit to dangers and problems too numerous to list and will result in the human unit being permanently impounded. For free emergency service, call on Jesus.

DANGER:
The human being units not responding to this recall action will have to be scrapped in the furnace. The SIN defect will not be permitted to enter Heaven so as to prevent contamination of that facility. Thank you for your attention. Please assist where possible by notifying others of this important recall notice.

So I guess you guys sat in front of the TV with channel 9 on. Most of the British Sci-Fi was on Public television before they became popular, including Monty Python.

Yep - every Sunday night at 10:00 p.m. - even on school nights. Mom would fix nachos or popcorn. If it was a Tom Baker or Peter Davison episode, we'd be in bed by midnight. If it was Jon Pertwee, 1:00 or 2:00 a.m. Colin Baker - we'd debate on whether it was worth our time (though I think my Dad had a thing for Peri). I became a Channel 9 member at the age of 14 just to get a TARDIS Key, which I still have.

I vaguely remember Monty Python being on. My parents wouldn't let me watch it because they thought it was too risque.

What have the Romans ever done for us?

Well, let's see. . .ummm. . .

There's Roman numerals, Roman Polanski, Roman Holiday. . .

Oh, not like that?

Sorry, I'll have to get back to you, then!

Ah, you've not seen the Life of Brian?

Reg: All right... all right... but apart from better sanitation and medicine and education and irrigation and public health and roads and a freshwater system and baths and public order... what have the Romans done for us?

Xerxes: Brought peace!

Reg: (very angry, he's not having a good meeting at all)
What!? Oh... (scornfully) Peace, yes... shut up!

Hilarious!

Now that that is over...I enjoy reading the posts in here and would like to contribute from time to time.
The Lutheran faith interests me & it is in my family background, just didn't get as far as me.

WOW! A chick who likes Monty Python!!

Gotta love it!!
Oh, that brings back memories! When "Monty Python Live at the Hollywood Bowl" came out, I was a senior in high school. My best friend and I went to see it in th movie theater. I swear we were the ONLY TWO girls in the whole place! We felt a little conspicuous at first, especially since we were rather... um.. fat geeky girls... (who both grew up to be fat geeky women, and proud of it!) But once the movie started it didn't matter who was around.

What fun!

No kidding. Any time we mentioned Python in college, we were pegged as engineering majors and nerds.
It's one of the things my British sweetie and I have in common. He is pretty nerdy, but very successful so....I'd say the jokes on them, wouldn't you?

Python seems to appeal more to quick-witted, analytical thinkers. I'd say you're in very good company. ;)

to be honest the first time I saw "Holy Grail" I didn't get it...I thought it was the stupidest thing I ever saw...the next week I went to a party where they were showing it...it was like the clouds parted and the lights shown down...and I didn't stop laughing...I've been a fan ever since...

Since I was/am too old for Monty (who?), this discussion has been either over my head, or just too far ahead of me. ;) ^_^

'Course, ya'll keep talking and soon there'll be a Monty Python theology, and then I will have to go back in time and discover this strange attraction. :p

that's just too depressing to contemplate...
Perhaps there is a beverage that is better than beer? In Greek mythology Ambrosia was the food of the gods, what then was the drink of the gods?
