  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

UK band. Any thoughts?
Love em lol. They are from Sheffield around 15 miles from where I lived in Chesterfield. I never got to see them live though. I was an Aussie in England running a fish and chip shop lol. So never had much time to do much at all. Had a young family as well.

But I had staff who were into all the music at the time. As the shop was within the entertainment area of the twon with all the clubs and pubs the music was constantly playing somewhere. Being an Aussie where the culture was quite laid back and more rock and country music or Aussie style music. It was a culture shock hearing all these great bands which many would not have heard coming at you from everywhere.

Many bands never even made it to international recognition and yet were just as good as Oasis, Blur, and the big names at the time. I use to workk in Sheffield and the city is a well known music city with the likes of Def Leppord, Joe Cocker, Christ Rea, Pulp, Human League, ABC, Thompson Twins and many others.

What I like about the Artic Monkeys is they exemplify the Yorkshire and Derbyshire culture. You can hear it in the accent. I lot count of the times I would have heard "mardy bum" or "got the face on" for acting sad and whinging lol. I loved the accent and its local and a culture in itself. A bit like the Beatles Liverpoolian accent and other bands like Gerry and the Pacemakers having a similar accent.

I am back in Australia. But I heard that Yorkshire accent for years and have a soft spot for music not just from Yorkshire but around that area in the north like Manchester and Liverpool.

My favorite song and performance was the Artic Monkeys at Glastonbury 2007. I wish I would have been there.
