• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I have been trying to find the complete Index of Prohibited Books in English, I only found partial lists (in English) and this link, which isnt in English, http://www.cvm.qc.ca/gconti/905/BABEL/Index Librorum Prohibitorum-1948.htm.

The Index is a listing of books that have been banned/censored by the Catholic Church, and yes I know... they stopped updating in 1966.

Where can I find the complete Index, in English? Thanks so much!

The 'Index' was continuosly updated:
In each edition some books were added, and others were canceled.

So it is a non-sense to look at it now, because the judice on many books may change and the Index is no more valid.

PS: it was not 'forbidden' to read the books in, but you sd take some precautions, like to ask advice to well informed people.

The Index can be downloaded in Word format.
Both are the 1948 (most recent) addition.

Dear Tonks, I dont think it is a good idea to post in OBOB link of very anticatholic site, as the first you posted.

Whichever document you can find in, is rubbish.

In my little experience with Opus Dei, no list of forbidden books were never given.

I am aware of that, and I know about Opus Dei too. Nonetheless, I want to look at the Index, last edition if possible, in full English. If the given links are the best I could get, I will be happy with that. Thanks. =)

Good afternoon atn_v,

To begin with, ODAN is not an "anti-Catholic" website...anti-Opus Dei, yes. There is nothing on ODAN that is really contrary to the teachings of the Church. OBOB staff discussed the website a month or two ago and we decided that it was a permissible link. You're certainly free to report my post and request that staff review it again. For the record, I voted in favor of allowing it last time though I will recuse myself should you ask that it be reviewed again - particularly since I'm moving from Ecumenical to Theology fairly soon.

Further, the list that I linked to was not the unverifiable list of books banned by Opus Dei, rather, it is merely the standard 1948 Index of Prohibited Books.

Should you have any other concerns feel free to shoot me a message.

If I had thought that site to be not allowed in OBOB, I wd have reported your post.
I didnot, but anyway I think that not all links, even if technically allowed, are constructive. So I simply said that it was not a good idea to post it. That is all.

You are certainly free to feel that way. However, "anti-Catholic" it is not.
