  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

HALO is getting really boring. The gameplay just isnt solid enough to make me want to play it.

Ill stick with BF2
BF2 is horrible in my opinion but I have only played it on xbox 360 so that really isn't a fair judgment. Halo 1 and 2 are prob the best FPS games ever made along side gears of war and half-life.

Anyway, I don't think much will change other than an increased roll that the brutes play in the story and their look within the game. It has already been confirmed that brutes will not be playable in Halo 3.

You're right, the console versions of BF2 were an absolute insult to the original. Play it on PC and I guarantee you that you wont go back.

That may be a bit much to say, but yes Halo is a great FPS. And Gears of War isn't. It's not first person. ;)

There is going to be a HUGE increase in role of the Brutes. Since the Elites have broken from the Covenant and formed a tenative alliance with the humans, the Brutes are the new Elites in terms of how they work and their usage. Their look is also getting a huge uplift. Did you watch the Et tu Brute thing at all?

I'm curious why you say this. Halo follows the same formula as all the others - point, shoot, die, respawn, repeat. Stronger guns as you go along. Rocket launchers and sniper rifles. Nothing new there.

To me, the best FPS games are ones that break away from that forumla. Rainbow Six, for example (though I haven't played Vegas - my computer isn't strong enough to handle it). R6 requires thought and strategy rather than just running around shooting anything that moves. One slight slip-up and you're dead. Gives a much more strategic and dangerous feel.

Metroid Prime is another FPS that I enjoy because it is so different. Rather than getting better weapons, you get different ones that are suited for different environments and monsters. Plus, you get upgrades to Samus' suit that allow you to do things you don't get in traditional FPS games.

I dunno, the whole concept of FPS games got real old real quick to me. Wolfenstine 3D paved the way for Doom, and once Doom got popular thousands of Doom-clones popped up. And for most (Halo included), the formula has only slightly changed since then. Get better guns, search for ammo, kill anything that moves. It's all so...common.

On the Et tu Brute trailer, I was amazed at the marine rounding a corner and WHAM! getting flattened across a wall by a Brute. Overall they look more intimidating then the Elites ever were. I just wish for a carpet bombing Banshee in Halo 3.

Watched the trailer.

"The only tactic the player has is to just pump 'em full of lead until they fall down. It doesn't really turn out to be really good gameplay."

Couldn't agree more. Yet, after discussing all the development of the brutes, everything they show is exactly that. Gameplay looks identical to Halo 2. I'm not impressed at all - actually kind of disappointed. Animations are clunky looking too - hope that is just cause it is an early build of the game.

Well yeah, they were showing the Brutes in Halo 2 and how they hadn't really develpoed them yet. And all their shortcomings and explaining how they were going to change them in Halo 3. It was an early build but I will agree it looks a lot like Halo 2 and I'll hold judgement until I see the full working game.
