  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I know what you mean I just started reading the bible and I had a hard time understanding some of the scriptures. A friend of mine told me to read the bible from beginning to end and read one chapter a day. He did say the reading may be kind of dry but it will be rewarding in the end. One of the bible verses I like and I live by is Psalm 119: 130.

an easy book to begin with is Proverbs~ because there are 31 chapters, most months you can read a chapter a day! Reading the gospel of John, along with your daily Proverb chapter also helps. Proverbs is a fairly easy book to understand & there is TONS of encouragement & instructions on how to live your life!

God Bless you in your endeavors!

This is what I do:

In the morning I read my Daily Devotional

At Lunch I read a chapter out of the New Testement (Whatever book I am currently on; right now it is Matthew)

At night, before bed, I read a Psalm or two, then I read a chapter out of the Old Testement (Again, whatever book I am on, currently it is Exodus)

Now, I dont believe you have to read a chapter a day. Read as much as you feel lead. There are some nights where I read 2-3 Psalms & 4-5 chapters. It is all where the Lord leads me.

Follow where the Lord is taking you.

Hello friend, well i dont know what you know about The Bible, but You would want to start in the New Testament.....In Hebrews we learn that we are no longer under The Law (10 Commandments and such). The Old Testament is Old, The new Testament is what we follow now! A great book to start with is the book of John. As far as verses to live by.....i find that there are too many to number! I would like to stress that it is super important that you not only read the whole New Testament, but that you study it in great detail, then read The Old Testament. The Bible as a whole is needed and if you can try to memorize as much of it as possible! God Bless!

Read Ephesians.

At the front are some really wild ideas, but don't stop there. Right about Chapter 3 it'll pick up and you'll start realizing, "Hey, here are some good instructions I can get my teeth into." From Ch. 3 on, you'll find verse after verse of instructions to live by. It's excellent. It puts theology in its place: useful, but not all there is.

Why would I suggest this book? Ephesians was written to a healthy church. It's general instructions to this church, not dealing with specific problems like Corinth or Galatia had. In fact, Ephesians was distributed to many churches, and Paul had apparently left the church's name blank in an early copy.

For other general-like books like this, try:

Colossians
James
1 Thessalonians
2 Thessalonians
1 John (this one can be tough, though, because the Greek usage is unusual in English: I'd recommend the English Standard Version for this book)
2 John
2 Peter
1 Peter (some odd theology midstream that confounds the theologians; otherwise, good reading)
Jude

Now these Scriptural verses are from an easy reading Bible, CEV, but also read them from the KJV, NKJV, and NIV.

Read the Scriptures through at least three times to understand them, and pray the prayers, but pray the prayers after you read them through to understand what the prayer is saying.

Now after reading and praying, start at the beginning of the New Testament, and ask our Lord Jesus Christ to guide and lead you through HIS Message.

Now this isn't any "quick fix", but it will get you started in knowing who you are and it will give you the necessary "kick start" in your walk.

Love in Christ

SCRIPTURAL VERSES TO MEMORISE

GUIDANCE:

Most new Christians always ask about the future, wondering how their new life is going to work out. We can ask, “What about God's Will for our life”, or “Will HE really lead us”?

Well the following verses will give us our "Assurance of Guidance":

"With all your heart you must trust the Lord and not your own judgement. Always let HIM lead you, and HE will clear the road for you to follow" (Prov. 3:5-6).

DEFEAT, WORRY and FEAR:

"Together you are the body of Christ. Each one of you is part of HIS body" (1 Cor. 12:27).

"Don't let evil defeat you, but defeat evil with good" (Rom. 12:21)

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, I come to You, through our Lord Jesus Christ, and I am the body of Christ, and Satan has no power over me, because I overcome evil with good, in Jesus’ Name. AMEN

“Children, you belong to God, and you have defeated these enemies. God’s Spirit is in you and is more powerful than the one that is in the world.” (1 John 4:4).

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, I come to You, through our Lord Jesus Christ, and I am of God and have overcome Satan and his forces, because HE that is in me, is greater than he that is in the world, in Jesus’ Name. AMEN

“I may walk through valleys as dark as death, but I won’t be afraid. You are with me, and your shepherd’s rod makes me feel safe” (Psa. 23:4).

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, I come to You, through our Lord Jesus Christ, and I will fear no evil. You are with me, Lord. Your Word, and Your Spirit comfort me, in Jesus’ Name. AMEN

“You will be built on fairness with no fears of injustice; every one of your worries will be taken far from you” (Isa. 54:14).

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, I come to You, through our Lord Jesus Christ, and I am far from oppression, and fear does not come near me, in Jesus’ Name. AMEN

“Weapons made to attack you won’t be successful; words spoken against you won’t hurt at all” (Isa. 54:17).

“They are like trees growing beside a stream, trees that produce fruit in season and always have leaves. Thos people succeed in everything they do” (Psa. 1:3).

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, I come to You, through our Lord Jesus Christ, and no weapons made to attack me will be successful. But, whatever I do, I will prosper, for I am like a tree growing by rivers of water, in Jesus’ Name. AMEN

Christ obeyed God our Heavenly Father and gave Himself as a sacrifice for our sins to rescue us from this evil world” (Gal. 1:4).

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, I come to You, through our Lord Jesus Christ, and I am delivered from evils of this world, for it is the Will of God, in Jesus’ Name. AMEN

“…no terrible disasters will strike you or your home. God will command HIS angels to protect you wherever you go” (Psa. 91:10-11).

“Follow the road to life, and you won’t be bothered by death” (Prov. 12:28).

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, I come to You, through our Lord Jesus Christ, and no evil will fall upon me or our house. God’s angels protect us, and my pathway is life and there is no death, in Jesus’ Name. AMEN

“Obey God’s messages! Don’t fool yourselves by just listening to it” (James 1:22).

“Let your faith be like a shield, and you will be able to stop all flaming arrows of the evil one” (Eph. 6:16).

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, I come to You, through our Lord Jesus Christ, and my faith will quench every fiery dart that Satan and his forces brings against me, in Jesus’ Name. AMEN

“Yet God raised Jesus to life! God’s Spirit now lives in you, and HE will raise you to life by HIS Spirit” (Rom. 8:11).

“I’ll give you the keys to the Kingdom of Heaven, and God in Heaven will allow whatever you allow on earth. But HE won’t allow anything that you don’t allow” (Matt. 16:19).

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, I come to You, through our Lord Jesus Christ, and I forbid any sickness or disease to come upon my body. Every disease, germ, and virus that touches my body dies instantly. I command every organ and every tissue of my body to function in the perfection to which God created it to function. I forbid any malfunction in my body, in Jesus’ Name. AMEN

“Our people defeated Satan because of the Blood of the Lamb, and the Message of God. They were willing to give up their lives” (Rev. 12:11).

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, I come to You, through our Lord Jesus Christ, and I overcome Satan and his forces by the Blood of the Lamb, and the Word of God, in Jesus’ Name. AMEN

“Surrender to God1 Resist the devil, and he will run from you” (James 4:7).

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, I come to You, through our Lord Jesus Christ, and I am submitted to God, and I resist you Satan and your forces, in Jesus’ Name. AMEN

“Our Lord, you are eternal! Your Word will last as long as the heavens” (Psa. 119:89)

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, I come to You, through our Lord Jesus Christ, and Lord, You are eternal, and Your Word will last forever, in Jesus’ Name. AMEN

OVERWEIGHT

“Dear friends, God is good. So I beg you to offer your bodies to Him as a living sacrifice, pure and pleasing. That’s the most sensible way to serve God” (Rom. 12:1)

“You surely know that your body is a tempter where the Holy Spirit live (1 Cor. 6:19)

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, I come to You, through our Lord Jesus Christ, and Lord I don’t desire to eat so much to become overweight.

Lord, I present my body to You, Lord, because my body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, which dwells in me.

Lord, I am not my own, I am bought with a price, and I refuse to overeat.

I command my body to settle down, in Jesus’ Name, and to conform to GOD’s WORD.

I restrain the desires of the body now, in Jesus’ Name, and command it to come into line with GOD’s WORD.

I now bind those forces of darkness to silence and oppression, and loosen them from me now, in Jesus’ Name.

I usually recommend reading one of the gospels. the first gospel I ever read was Matthew. But many recommend John. Either way, it will get you familiar with who Jesus was and what He did for you. I also recommend Romans 1-8, for it best describes the condition of our heart and why there is a need for Christ.
