  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I was wondering something, about getting into heaven. Is a non-christian more likely to get into heaven if they were a practicing Muslim, or Jew, or any other religion similar to Christianity, than if that person was an athiest?

Outside of Christ, there can be no salvation.

I'm not God, so I don't know, but I do believe that non-Christians can go to Heaven, no matter what religion they are. It's not their fault if they never heard of Christianity or haven't seen a good enough example of our religion to be able to view it for what it's worth; and I'm pretty sure God knows that. It's not a person's religion what matters, it's what's in their heart. Jesus died for everybody, even for those who don't believe in Him.

They believe Jesus was a prophet sent by God.

That's right.

Do they believe that Jesus is God incarnate? No.

Do they believe that Jesus is the Creator? No.

Do they believe that Jesus and His atonement on the cross is the only avenue of salvation? No.

Do they believe that Jesus was crucified for our sins? No.

Do they believe that He was resurrected on the third day? No.

Anyone of these is enough to support the fact that they believe in a false Jesus.

How can they believe that Jesus is a prophet sent by Allah when they don't believe what Jesus says?

Sorry, but the bottom line is that Muslims do not confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, or that God raised Him on the third day.

The do not believe Jesus is the one and only Son of God, who died to take on all sins and rose again for victory over them. Outside of belief in this Jesus, there can be no salvation. That's why He had to come down and go through it in the first place. Unjust crucifixion is not fun to say the least, if there was another way into Heaven, Jesus wouldn't have even bothered to do all that.

We know that. However, Islam doesn't believe in Jesus as the Son of God like Christianity does. I think that's what MikeMcK meant. In most Christian denominations (all of them..? Help me out, Mike! :o), there is the belief that you cannot be "saved" (or go to Heaven), without Jesus as their personal savior. Islam believes that Jesus is a prophet, but I understand they don't believe Jesus ever saved anyone. So they don't believe in Jesus the same way as Christians do. That's why some Christians believe them to be unsaved. Some atheists believe that Jesus did come to Earth and was even a prophet of sorts, after all. That doesn't mean they're considered to be more Christian than the rest.

(P.S. Hope I made sense... I'm under the vague impression that I didn't. I should go to sleep. :( )

I find it conceivable that God may have some provision for those who are religious, but have never had the chance to hear about Jesus.

However, an athiest has literally a snowball's chance in hell. That is because they reject God outright. With them it is not a question of ignorance. They have made their choice.

Without a belief in Jesus as the Christ and the only Son of God, repenting of sins, and believing on Him for salvation, you cannot be saved. It doesn't matter who you are or what you do. You must place your faith in Jesus Christ to be saved.

See thats what i dont understand about Christianity. I know Christians who are horrible people, and I know Athiests who are really nice, kind, wonderful people. Yet acording to Christianity the Horrible Christian might still get into heaven, yet a really nice, kind Athiest, wouldn't.

Does that not strike you as a bit rediculous?

Then they're not atheists.
Atheists by definition can't reject God, because they don't believe God exists... to reject something, a person must be aware of it first.

The whole premise behind Christianity is that everyone is sinful and no matter how "good" you can be, it's not enough to get into Heaven. That is why Jesus had to die and rise - so our sins could be forgiven. Once we accept this gift of His and receive forgiveness, God's next goal with our lives is to change them so we will be more like Jesus. The Christians you know, assuming they are Christians, are not perfect, and that is regrettable. They are forgiven, though. And hopefully, they are getting better. I've had friends and coworkers who were Christians and most people would probably write them off as bad people - but when you consider that one of them was in jail before he got saved and another was a massive hedonist, it's not as bad as one would think. Sure, they have their problems, but God was starting out with rougher stuff.

Actually, the very definition of the word a-theos tells us that they reject God.

Well, the atheists I know don't reject God. They just don't believe in God because of the lack of evidence. The only way someone can actually reject God is when he or she actually knows God (not just believe in God's existence), and I think that's impossible, at least during the lifetime on Earth.

The Bible says that if someone is a Christian, then they will strive for holiness, live according to the leading of the Holy Spirit, and that they will show the fruits of the Holy Spirit working in their lives.

If they're not, then chances are, they're not really Christians.

No.

Sin has to be judged and punished. It makes no difference whether the sinner is "nice" or not.
