  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

If you can be disciplined, get up an hour before you need to, devote that hour to prayer & rreading the Word - you can fellowship with other Christians, anywhere they are, it doesn't HAVE to be within the church walls. And, I'm sorry, but fellowship with others is not equivalent to fellowship with God!

So how can I fix this, if the Churches in my area are no good.

There has to be some good. It's easy to focus on what you think is wrong. I moved here from NC and churches are way different out west. Even the same denomination. It took a lot of adjustment, but the past 5 years of searching, I had to do soul searching, what lined up with the bible had to be 1st. Alas, there is usually no choirs in those churches. Well I'm still believing to be involved with music again.

Right now we are in an AOG church with good pastors. And that is like medicine to the soul.:) I know everthing else will follow or I'll get to do things like I used to before we moved here. I fellowshipped mostly online in these forums before settling on our church.

I'm paraphrasing here but Jesus said,"If two or three gather in My Name I will be there." But I agree that time spent with God on your own is different to time spent with God amongst other Christians.

Does anyone Know a good Method to make time for the Lord??

I mean Bible Reading, Praying, ect.

I am failing in this area big time-and my Christian side feels dead.

I need to rebuild my relationship with him.

Any methods will help.
my friend, your self is the temple of God. You must realized that outside people can't help your relationship or lack thereof with God. Must read Bible, preferrabley King James version which I believe is the true translation without any loss. Also, you must seek the testimony of Jesus, Prophecies throughout book of Matthew to Revelation. Understanding Lords plan through these promises we've been shown, you should be able to see times and signs of his second coming. If you are aware of this, you would put your relationship with Lord at top of your priority.

We all face challenges daily basis and I am by no means perfect Christian. Just remember this my friend, God gave us his pure gift. We can't earn the eternal life through action of any sort. We cannot please him without believing in Jesus Christ. Faith in Christ should be freedom to you not some binding action into grand gesture of steps or ceremonies.

Thank You for the Advice.

Last night I made progress and read 20 Minutes of the Bible-I read Job, somehow it appealed to me out of everything. I started to slightly get bored, so I stopped reading. And picked up another book about Jesus.

So I need to read a lot more, I do have a KJV somewhere, but it's packed away. I have the NLT out.

So I'm trying at least. :)

I also agree with sistakrista, it is not the same. It does help, but it isn't the same. Try playing praise music or listening to Christian radio during times when you would have the radio on. Pray to God about where He would have you go to church. He will direct you.
I also live in an area that when I got here was very hard pressed to find a church that I was comfortable with. I am non-denominational but will go to Assembly of God and that is actually where He started me, a small AoG here locally then He moved me out to a bit bigger non-denom church in the next big town that focuses on preparing its members for ministry and strengthening their relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ which is just what I was needing. So don't doubt prayer in this situation one bit. I rely on prayer when it comes to finding employees or vendors or equipment, its surprising what God can do.
He will lead you to a church that He wants you to attend if you allow Him to. But even when He leads you to that church, you still need time with Him every day on your own. Reading the Bible through in a year, worship via music, devoting your work to him is an act of worship. Praying all through the day helps draw you close. Keeping your mind focused on Him throughout the day. Just talk to Him as if He were right there with you, out loud. It will so draw you close, you'll be surprised at the difference it will make.

Hope this helps somewhat.

Praise God!

Very very true, no one but yourself can help your relationship or make you any closer. Versions, well, I use the New King James Version as my study Bible, but I do a lot of cross-referencing with King James and others (Amplified, Ryrie Study, NIV) to make sure I get exactly what it is saying, and it makes for some interesting Bible Study. And I like to go back to the original Greek and Hebrew and study that when I can.
I also like to take words or actions or things that He points out to me, that He wants me to work on and look them up in the Strong's concordance and study every scripture related to it.

It's amazing how He will talk to you through His word.

God Bless!

When I feel the closest to God and "on fire"... is when I am doing personal bible studies, and keeping a prayer journal where I write out my prayers and write what I feel God's response is back to me. PM me if you need me to explain further... but I will be out of town Wed night - Sat afternoon.

God's relationship with me is as unique as I am... and His relationship with you will be different than anyone elses relationship with Him. He knows you and what will move you... but the main thing is to discipline yourself to spend time with Him daily as my signature says. Don't worry about doing it right or how long... just set aside time each day. Sing to Him from your heart if music is your thing... write poetry to Him if that is your thing. There is no wrong way to spend your time with Him.

Bible studies are great... look for Beth Moore or Elizabeth George bible studies... you will get more out of reading the bible if you have a study guide.

Again... the most intimate and spiritually rewarding thing for me is my prayer journal.

Have fun... and take your time... don't get overwhelmed with rules and what to do... let Him lead you. I pray that you will have the desire and discipline to have alone time each day... and that you will crave it like food for nurishment and water for refreshing.

Your relationship with God is your relationship with God.

If you consider spending time with God to be a matter of something not unlike homework, where you must perform certain duties... think again. Where is God? God is here. Where must you go to find God? Wherever you go, there is God.

Consider this... all search for truth is actually a search for God. Some seek God through math, some through physics, some through art, some through philosophy, some through politics, some through business -- wherever we might seek the higher truth, we might seek for God who is everywhere and behind all things and through whom all things exist.

I could put this another way. Anything in life you might wish to accomplish requires motivation. What is motivation? Is not motivation like the wind? Motivation is a force, an invisible force which propels us.

Some say of motivation, 'we have the carrot and the stick'. Where, with God is for you the reward? What is it that God has that you might want? Because if you do not first have that question, you will never seek out the answer.

Consider then that God is God... and there is very much He has to give you.

Everything else... "bible reading", whatever... these things are just things we do. It is what is in the heart that matters.

Lifeless art is lifeless art... art with life is something else entirely.

Is that a clue, perhaps.

Cheers.
