Yeah - he's not a big fan of ties either. I think he only wears it to the early service. He wears suit and tie to weddings, and most funerals (except when he wears a collar).

My dh just wears shirt and tie, unless instructed otherwise. I think he may wear a collar to a funeral from time to time if he thinks it will cause offense not to. A funeral is just not the time to make a point.

Hey, are you into word games. I have been playing an excellent word association game/puzzle. It is a group game, where you can share where you are up to with other people, and help each other out. It's kind of fun.

If people are interested we could start a thread on it and do it together (although I am a fair way through it with some others). There are some parts where it is helpful to be up on US stuff, which is hard for me. But one of the group I am doing with it is American.

No point at all is being made. It's all about how one feels about what one wears. eg. I do not like to draw attention to myself so I tend to like to blend into the crowd when I'm outside of church. However, since it is not a sin to dress in common clothing nor is it a blessing to dress clerically, I think it is fine to be yourself as best you can be and dress in what is both comfortable and suitable for the occasion. We should always remember that much of our clerical garb is merely the street clothing of yesteryear.

Another thing to remember Karen is that the opposite question is equally valid- what point is being attempted to be made by wearing the clerical collar?

...which is a lousy reason, I'm sure you'd agree.

Imagine where Anglicans would be if they did everything "because the old people like it". We would look like Continuers. Cool.

Funny how a essentially useless custom favoured by the elderly could be maintained and another equally favoured but more spiritual discarded. I don't need to give examples, but I'm sure you can think of a few yourself.
