That's my discussion question. Most Christian see dance in the church as just a form of entertainment. Is that our fault as ministers of dance? Are we as dancers really worshiping God?What is our motive for dancing in church? How effective are we?When we dance, can the presence of God be seen & felt? Or, are we just performing? How can we tell the difference? How can we change the image of dance ministry in our churches today?Do we know the difference between worship & performance? And, are we capable of worship? What stands in our way?Is dance ministry a call of God, just good entertainment, just good exercise or just a hobby? If you feel that dance ministry is your calling, please explain why. There are so many dancers reading this forum who need to hear from you.A good book reference that will help you answer these questions is: “The Heart of Worship” by Dr. Lamar Boschmanwww.WorshipInstitute.comBlessings!Richelle

I think it's a calling some of us have...and we need to pass that call on to the other dancers in our church :)

I'm still new to dance ministry...we just started to have this ministry in our church a month ago and so far we didn't dance yet....but I danced at church before....

the important thing is why you are doing it...and that's something every person has to fgure out themselves...am I dancing for the glory of God or just to show off?

I did ballett for more than 10 years...and I did it just to have fun...then I went to the christian artists seminar in the Netherlands and learned that there is another way to dance....

when you really dance for God, when that's the reason you do it...then others will see it in the way you dance  I've seen that there....and desided that this is the way I want to dance from that day on...and that this is what I want to pass on to others :)

it's like praying not with words but with your body...when you dance like that it is real worship...and not just performing...

off course you won't always be able to dance like that like you don't always find the words for your prayers....but God can give it to you...

I don't know if dance ministry is my calling but I know that it's what God wants me to teach the other girls at my church...that dancing isn't something bad but that it can be a way to glorify the Lord....

be blessed <><

I used to be part of the dance team at my old church. i'm visiting churches right now but i hope to get back into the dancing ministry. i think that for some people dancing can be a ministry. i know that in my old church sometimes u'd be dancing and u would get this feeling, like God was there too. it was amazing...peaceful.

We do Davidic dance during our worship time at my Messianic Synagogue. It is for worship and worship alone. I am the leader and I stress this. If you are doing it for any other reason, your heart is not right and you should not be doing it. I love dancing for our Creator. I have some great worship time that words can't always express. :tutu:

I am involved in a Worship dance ministry. Mostly the dance to me, is purely worship... I can say in dance what my heart feels....
Dance is not supposed to be for entertainment, yet it can be for those whose who are watching.... although those who are watching must be able to see the love of the L_rd in us, and it must move them to worship.
When we go on outreaches, we explain the scripture on which the song and dance is based, and the reasons why we interpret certain words in specific ways....

In praise dancing.... it is so exuberantly joyful that it moves one to a one-ness in praise...

I am a very demonstrative person, so when I go watch the football ... my husband evetually sits in a different place, because the people start watching me ieo the game... I get excited my L_rd in the same way...I talk with my hands.... and whay not in dance ??

Dance is biblical, why not use it??

i am a worshipper of God and dance is one of the ways i praise the Almighty. it is a privilige and an honor to dance before God, not to be seen by people but to be seen by God. of course people will see, but it is not about having an audience.
i was invited to dance at the women's retreat at our church, one of the praise team singers wrote a song and did it acapella, and i danced to it. it was a blessing. i like to do dances that tell a story, i am trained in modern/jazz/ballet but i am a worshipper and i love to move!

Hi Ainuhina!
If you feel strongly that God wants you to teach dance in your church, then dance is your calling.

The feeling you have is called the unction of the Holy Spirit! The untion is a part of the anointing (or the empowerment) to perform the will of God.

Your church leaders should be able to confirm this with you. But most importantly, the Holy Spirit will confirm that this is your ministry with healings, signs & wonders following your dance. He will also multiple the dance ministry that he has placed in your care. Which means, the ministry will grow in all sorts of ways.

Are you called & anointed to dance?
Here's how you can tell:
When you dance, do people cry & does God respond by healing their hearts?
When you dance, does deliverance happens in various ways?
Are people really attracted to the Spirit of God that pours out of your heart when you dance?
Then your called!

And Ainuhina, you are right when you say dance is a prayer; because, all dance is a form of comunication.
So, who are you talking to when you dance?
If your talking to God & your are a believer, then God will show up & answer your prayers as well as the prayers of the people watching.

Blessings!

 I can totally agree

only that the other teens in my church who wanted to have this praise dance group don't seem to :sigh: they just don't turn up to practise and we didn't manage to have a single lesson so far :( I guess the time has just not been right for it yet....

I still dance - but just for myself without anyone seeing me....and it really strenghtens my relationship with God

Hey Kiddo,
Don't be discouraged!
Every dance director that I have talked to has gone through this same test. Me included! But after you have passed the test, God always has a Big Promotion for you. I am a whiteness. I went from taking a lot of hard knocks & rejection as a local church dance director to becoming a Praise Dance School Owner! Hallelujah!

It seems that once God sees that you are not gonna quite & that you will dance solo if necessary; He will promote you, and people will want to follow you.
See: www.LivingSoulWorshipingArts.com
Only God could have done this for me.

And; if He did it for me, He'll give you the desires of your heart also!

Blessings!

Hey I've been dancing for a few years and just feel amazing when I do. When I started reading this I realized that dance can be a calling it is all in the way you use it. I have been praying a lot about weither I should dance or not, so thank you. I just got my answer. There really are not any dance ministries in my area so I think I'm going to start one, a non-profit troupe or where any profits go to missions or charities, that is mostly what I have been thinking about lately. Well thanks and god bless

PTL  that's great

keep us updated on what's happening please

I'm on a volunteer year in the UK right now...don't have time for dancing here :sigh: but it seems like the idea keeps following me round...somebody suggested I start having a dance class with kids on my day off when helping in the After School Club...didn't happen yet though since there's only boys there and they aren't really interested in dancing :D

I wouldn't say that  that's just what I did for years....if you wnat something to change in your church you have to start it

try encourage people to dance...and ask them why they don't like it...make them think about it...and most important find others who think the same in your church

be blessed <><
