• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I'm sure he wont care, but I made this petition to get Hovind to engage in a written exchange:

http://www.petitiononline.com/khovind/petition.html

Anyone interested in truthfulness, whether 'creationist' or 'evolutionist' should be happy to sign it.

I suppose this might get him to either finally engage in one, or perhaps he will stop complaining that a such written debates are "useless" and "don't help anyone".

So sign away! Feel free to pass it around too.

Cheers,
-Chris

Believe it or not but he has a bit of a reach on many less intellectually inclined 'creationists'. Even AIG wont come out and say he is a complete nut (the most they will do is suggest 'caution' to his arguments or refer to his '250k challenge' as an unfortunate 'gimmick'). My parents entire church of many hundreds think he is awesome.. its quite sad.

Anyways, personally, my primary reason for having a care in the world for what he says has more to do with my interest in the psychology of the creationist rather than actually trying to accomplish all that much by engaging with them.

Hi, Chris --- nice to meet you

My advice to Kent Hovind is not to do it.

And I'm speaking from experience. I can't for the life of me get people to believe that I am not a YEC, despite the fact that I've even quoted Wikipedia on my behalf.

I've been branded a YEC, and I either have to live with it, or don't come here; so I have just learned to shrug if off.

Once a person's mind is made up --- only the Holy Spirit (or that person, himself) can change it.

When I first got saved, I thought the best way to educate someone was by one-on-one debate; but I no longer believe that.

He's going to have a hard time with a written debate from prison.

Paul did some of his best writing from a prison cell --- they are called the Prison Epistles.

You are a YEC. The wikipedia article that I quoted supports that definition no matter how much you twist words to dissociate yourself from others like you.

As I recall, you posted 3 aspects of a YEC from Wikipedia to me - saying something like "Yup - that's you" to each one.

But you stopped short of the 4th aspect.

I then quoted the 4th aspect back, which vindicated me.

Yes --- three out of four points makes me look YEC, but the fourth one outweighs the other three.

I'm not sure why it's important to you that I be a YEC. You're certainly showing a high degree of disrespect to me and my profile, and it bothered me at first, but I'm getting over it.

It can be confusing, though, to someone who doesn't know the difference between a YEC and a BEC.

Just because you fail to fit one aspect does not mean that it negates fitting the other three. Your just playing semantics.

There is no such thing as a BEC except in your quarky little world. You are in fact a YEC. You can keep lying all you want and claiming you don't believe the Earth is young, but all you are doing is embarassing yourself by showing that you don't even understand the concept of age. Give it up AV, you aren't fooling anyone here but yourself.

Nothing in that article "vindicates you". Below is the entire definition for what YECism is:

Young Earth creationism is a religious doctrine which teaches that the Earth and life on Earth were created by a direct action of God relatively recently (about 6,000 to 10,000 years ago).

You fit every aspect of that definition. The rest there is preceded by the words "generally" and "many", so those are pretty much optional. You ARE a YEC whether you like it or not, and semantics will not get you out of this.
