I find the idea of imposing a humanly understandable timescale of 6000 years on a truly awsome God insulting.

Surely setting the universe in motion 14 billion years ago and knowing exactly how it would turn out from the start is vastly more impressive than belief in an old guy in robe with beard micro managing creation in a 3 by 5 universe just 6000 years ago?

The point is that scientific theories do not deal with the supernatural. Why would you expect the theory of evolution to? That is your argument against it, right?

Your statement is about philosophy, with value judgements like "loving". Evolution is science, which is different to philosophy, and deals in fact, not value. Trying to counter one with the other is like a water polo goaly defending against a dressage rider
