  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

:doh:OOOOOOHHHHHHH, that makes sence. what is that book about?
A short history of human civilization :p

He is attempting to explain why some cultures developed guns, deadly germs, and steel while others didn't. And why it was Europe that conquered the Americas and not the other way around :)

Any good so far?

It is actually. I'm really enjoying it, especially since some of the stuff is brought up in another of my favorite books, Ishmael. I'm not very far yet, but I need to hurry and finish cuz I need to have it finished before college :sorry:

My favorite book of all time is:
Cyrano De Bergerac - par Edmond Rostand.

My favorite series would have to be The Dark Tower series by Stephen King.

I read Cyrano for AP English. Not my favorite book. And I love the first four Dark Tower books, but not the last three. And not even because of what happens, but because it felt so rushed and like a cop out :(

What a coincidence. I read Cyrano to prepare for the AP French Exam. I liked it so much I also bought an english translation. I think a lot of the goodness of this book is lost through translation - and I have seen some really crappy translations of this book. It is classic french literature, just about every child in France reads it.

I agree. I also think Stephen King tends to do that with a lot of his stories!

It might have been the translation - and the fact that I had to read from a photocopy books because we didn't have enough books for our class. What translation do you recommend? Maybe I'll try it again :)

I was so upset with Dark Tower VII. I can't even begin....

JK Rowling's Harry Potter Series

To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee

Angels & Demons by Dan Brown (much better than the DaVinci Code imo)

I'm surprized you acually said Harry Potrer, but I'm not going to preach to you that it is a book of demons. In fact I myself like the Potter series. I have all six and can't wait to see how Rowling wraps it all up in book 7. I didn't like number 5, Though, Harry just got too big headed. Fave of the 6 out would have to be the Fourth.
