Carman had a lot of great music in the '80s and '90s. Some of his best tunes (spanning from '82 to '98) were:

Spirit Filled Pizza
Sunday's On The Way
The Champion
Addicted to Jesus (with DC Talk)
God's Got An Army
Jesus Is The Light
Lazarus Come Forth
Revive Us Oh Lord
7 Ways 2 Praise
The Courtroom
God Is Exalted
Radically Saved
Celebrating Jesus (from the Christmas album)

Does anyone remember Chuck Girard?

Of course! He was the lead singer/songwriter in the group Love Song (excellent early 70's Christian country-rock band!) He went solo after LS ended. Excellent musician! ;)

I'm remembering bands like Servant, Rick Cua (well he was more 80's than 70's), Larry Norman. I grew up in the 70s-early 80s so some of these names a re a real trip down memory lane!

I loved Mike Warnke!! Wierd, I was just thinking about him the other day walking home from work. I wonder what he's up to now. It was pretty sad how his ministry came down.

I've seen all of them (some more than once) in concert. Man, i feel OLD!:D

As for the Mike Warnke fiasco, you can read about it here from the people who exposed him -

http://www.answers.org/satan/warnke.html

and on his website -

http://www.mikewarnke.org/default.asp?startpage=faqs.asp

It seems, from his site, that he is still available for speaking engagements.

I liked very few of those.

Here's my favorites from what I'd consider the 'early days'

Keith Green
Barnabas
Rez
Whiteheart
D&K
Petra (anything up to On Fire)
Steve Taylor
77s
EARLY Sheila Walsh
Daniel Amos
Scaterd Few
The Crucified
Vengeance Rising
Mike Knott/LSU/Lifesavers
The Choir
and yes....Stryper.

That would about cover everything I remember being classic up until the late 80's. That would also include everything that was cool (at that time) about Christian Music. I know I'm forgetting some, though.

 Good stuff!! I really liked those bands too

How about Don Francisco? I still love his country/folk flavered stuff.

I remember going to a Bill Gaither Trio concert in Columbus, Ohio. In the middle of the concert, Bill said that they had this new artist with them, and that he was going to sing a couple of songs. That was my first experience with CCM. Don sang 2 songs-"Got To Tell Somebody" and, of course, "He's Alive."

Rich

WOW! That stuff about Mike Warnke was a shock. I had no idea he was such a liar. Yet, he's still in "ministry", laughing all the way to the bank I bet.

Don Francisco is still in the game. You can learn about him here:

Hey, that music is still COOL - it is when Christian music was really Christian (and not afraid to call itself that)

I've seen all those artists/groups you mentioned above except Scaterd Few.

I seen Keith Green in '79 at Jesus '79 in Ontario, Canada. The only time it did not pour rain the 3 days of the festival was when he sung!

Barnabas' female singer, Nancy Jo Mann had a real heart for ministry (and a great set of pipes)

Resurrection Band (NO Rez for me!) was an awesome band in concert and Glenn Kaiser always gave a rousing talk at the end complete with altar call.

Daniel Amos was a truly innovative band with a genius songwriter (Terry Taylor) No 2 albums of their ever sounded the same!

Stryper was, imo, a highly overrated band. Seen them 3 times in concert. Some good songs but nothing par excellence.

Here's a rarity in classic CCM....

In 1984, Lisa Whelchel (yes, from Facts of Life!) made a Christian contemporary music album -- it was called "All Because Of You". If anyone ever finds this gem (on E-bay, thrift store, yard sale, etc.), I think it would be worth getting.

The sound? Pure '80s all the way!!

Oh my yes!! I saw it once, it was all pink and bubble-gum-y. LOL

OLD Petra is some of the best, Benny Hester was pretty good. Greg X. Volz's solo stuff was actually pretty awesome back in the day. I was a huge Steve Taylor fan in the days of On The Fritz and I Wanna Be A Clone.
