I'm a nurse ;) but my fiance is getting his M.Div, and is going to be a pastor, so I'm going to be a pastor's wife. Right now he's a student intern. I don't usually post here, but I do read some. If there's pastors wives (or husbands, as the case may be!) it'd be nice to chat sometime. :)

Maeyken, does his seminary offer any support or fellowship for spouses (or soon-to-be spouses) of pastors? Some schools do, I know... it's a recognition of the fact that people in your position have a whole set of expectations put on you. I hope you have that, or perhaps a mentor who has been married to a pastor for awhile and can impart the wisdom of experience. I'm sure that would help both of you adjust.

And just as a side note, did you know that many churches have "parish nurses?" I've seen congregations do outreach with blood pressure screenings and the like. A pretty neat ministry, I think.

As someone brighter than I has said
aren't all Christians in full time ministry.
&
Christians don't retire they die.

I totally agree with that.

My impression is that this section of the boards refers to people whose profession/career are blended with ministry/calling, if that makes sense. When I hear people use the phrase "full-time ministry," I believe they are trying to refer to people like pastors, missionaries, etc.

So within that context, I was interested in knowing who frequents this little corner of CF. It seemed to me that there weren't very many pastors around, considering how big these boards are. And it can be helpful sometimes to get to know people who are in similar situations, facing similar challenges.

I'm a nurse. And I have been a pastor's wife for umm...almost 4 months. He is about to finish his second semester of his M. Div. We might have a lot in common. :)

I am the Senior Pastor of Calvary Chapel Santa Cruz. I am now serving full time after 15 years as a pastor and a tent maker.

Wow, I have so much respect for tent makers. I've considered that myself, and I would do it if I felt called to it... but I know that's a big challenge to have all that responsibility. Good for you for rising to the challenge!

Exactly, I've been thinking/praying a whole lot lately about vocation vs. avocation.

I've got a "regular" day job, but we're all ministers in one way or another. Some professionally, some not.

Bi-Vocational:

Part-time mission mobilizer (On support, thus part-time. Don't have enough support for full-time.) with M-DAT and ShortTermMissions.com

and

Part-time freelance designer

and

Part-time sculptor.

And my wife has to work full-time to support my habit. Actually, we hope in the very near future she won't have to work full-time and can be at home with a child and volunteering in the ministry above. But before this happens, one of the above three will have to start bringing in a significantly more amount of monthly cash!

I'm curious to know what kinds of ministries we have represented here.

As for me, I'm the (solo) pastor of a small presbyterian congregation.
My Father is the foodservice Director of a christian camp, we all live and work full time on campus (well, I work partime)it is a different sort of full time ministry, still. WE have been here for going on 4 yrs. My dad is starting a non-profit org. for training missions kitchens, for food safty and santiation and budgeting well and planning and recieving new kitchen stuff. It is very exciting. I work as a youth Leader in our church, the youth group has approx. 45 kids but only 25 or so show up on a given youth night. It is good though.

Missionary to the Navajo Nation. I currently am teaching in 3 churches on the reservation, as well as at my home church. My wife does food ministry, which includes clothing, blankets, cleaning supplies, etc. and does elderly shut-it visitation both on and off the reservation.
We also work for Many Waters Mission doing admin assist, website admin, and coordinate visiting missions groups with various churches on the res.
