Wearing a cowl can be interesting

Cowls are in reality our religious habits, but we only use them in the colder months. We are also buried in them.

There can be some humorous moments in dealing with these garments.

One morning, I got up late and was rushing to make it on time to 'vigils'. So I hurriedly put on my cowl. I was having trouble getting in over my head and got frustrated. I then realized that I was trying to get my large head into the sleeve. So I pulled it off, sighed, and tried again, hurriedly, and I got it on and it was backwards, so my hood covered my face.....I sighed twice, and the third time was the charm.

At other times, when I am going through a door, my sleeve, over large sleeve, gets caught on a doorknob. One day, one of our priests did something funny during Mass/Lauds, and as I walked passed him with a good-natured smirk, my sleeve again, got caught on the end of the choir stall and almost pulled me backwards, I was humiliated.....it was his turn to chuckle.

Won't go into trying to get something out of robe pocket and my hand gets caught in one of the fold and won't let me go. One day years ago, during a solemn profession, my phone rang, and as I tried in a panic to get it, my sleeve sort of knotted up with my scrambling to get to the phone......my face got so hot, that I am sure I was purple.....the community was amused at my panic, I was not.
