If you want to study engineering, or medicine, or any other human discipline, you do not need Scripture. If you want to have true knowledge of God, and man's relation to God, you cannot gain it apart from Scripture. Indeed, if you look for such knowledge in any other place, science, medicine, history, social studies, etc., you will never obtain it!!
God IS and His 'word' (incarnate and in Holy Scripture) is the only revelation of His being. The unredeemed mind of man cannot conceive of this, thus man's evaluations of God, apart from the influence of the Holy Spirit and Scripture, are always erroneous and idolatrous.
Man is created by God, in His image and likeness. If men try to understand the true nature of man by consulting what is in their own experience, rather than Scripture, they will never understand man.
We can know much about man that is beneficial to man according to human disciplines. We cannot conceive of his utter sinfulness and need of redemption, as well as the blessing of God's salvation as opposed to the awful eternal destiny that awaits him if he is not redeemed, unless we are informed of these by God in the Scripture.
Do not look for answers to the questions of God, and man in God's sight, anywhere else!
