I hurt my back a few weeks ago and took 2 weeks off from running. I ran outside today for the first time in a while, most of the winter I have been on the treadmill. Add in the hills and wind and it was a challenging run. I felt a little discouraged that I could not run that long before I got tired.
It reminded me of how quickly and quietly we can get out of shape when we don't use some muscles. i think the same thing is true spiritually. If you don't use it, you lose it. And it is much harder to gain than to lose.
I have to remind myself that I ran a 10k last October. That really wasn't that long ago. I try to do push ups and i can barely do 7 in a row. That is pretty pathetic. But, it is more than none and more than the person who is not trying.
