In the best interests of spiritual renewal, I visited a different Church this morning. What a pleasant change!
Surrounded by beautifully landscaped gardens fresh from winter rains, this unusual church is located on a slight gradient sloping downwards. So you look down from the pews to the altar and priest below. I found a seat 2 pews behind the organist . On this chilly morning at 7.00am I was in a nice cosy spot underneath the heater. To my delight this woman played some beautiful old hymns including "On Eagles Wings". She also sang. A one woman band but so skilled, so appropriate. Perfect!
And the priest. Picture Danny Devito in priestly attire. With a booming baritone voice and a quaint "Lord be wuth you" accent, I was intrigued to know his country of origin.
Not a packed house but close to maybe 100 congregation attending. Average age 65, which made me feel young at least. Which makes me think that retirement is all about making sure you make it to Heaven.
This is a church I will have to revisit.
