In Lent we remember the 40 days our Lord spent in the wilderness
But we are not going out to the desert for lent, oh no, we will be in a place far more arid and inhospitable to life then any desert. We are going to be in the World, in Babylon!
We are standing up to the World and saying “We are tired of your empty promises and we do not need you” We have the love of Christ, what else do we need?
But when you stand up to the World, the World will mock you, it will make you feel like you do not belong, like there is something wrong with you. Do not trust the World, its ways lead to death, that is all it has to offer, it can not understand anything greater then itself.
We can give up things for Lent because we recognize that in the long run, these things do not matter, Christ matters, He is all that matters.
