I was listening to a sermon earlier this week online about Job. There are a couple of things that have always bothered me about Job. I never seem to be able to get answers for them. One is, who told the writer about what happened in heaven in Job 1-2. How do we know these conversations took place between Satan and God? God doesn't tell Job this at the end of the book.
Second, it makes it seem like Satan and God are playing a game of "double dog dare you". Satan wants to hurt Job and God allows him to do it. Is this the standard way that God behaves with allowing Satan to act? Or is this the exception?
Who wrote Job? I have heard that it was Moses. If Job is really one of the oldest books in the Bible then it stands to reason that the story of Job may have been a verbal story for a long time before it was every written down. Does that mean the story was embellished over time?
I don't mean to be disrespectful concerning the spiritual truths that Job has to tell us. I taught my first Bible study nearly 30 years ago about Job and have always enjoyed the book, but also struggled to understand it.
