Love is giving. Man is all about take. Man wants something in return for something given. God is not a capitalist. The Father and Jesus set the example. We are asked to give freely to others in need. In the case of forgiveness, which is one of the most important things we are expected to give others, we are expected to do so without reward or remuneration. Nothing in it for us, our concern being for the other person and lessening the backlash of their actions. God sets the example. God asks no price for forgiveness. His concern is for us, as ours should be for others. The Adversary and man on the other hand, would assume that there should be something gained. God offers and shows us the way. Put His will before our own.
