Have you ever had one of those 'over-sized' burgers at a few of the fast food franchises, where more of it drips on the wrapper/lap/carseat than often makes it to the mouth? They look and can be delicious, but they are simply an overload on the basics. So it is with salvation.
In the beginning before mankind separated itself from God, the word "Don't" was enough. Once we withdrew from Him, it became a matter of clarifying the original format by saying 'Don't put our will first'. Time went on, and man in human fashion, continued to put their will first anyways. God took His basic recipe and tinkered until He finally decided to shut the whole operation down. By a stroke of luck however, and after a complete renovation of the premises by flood, He continued to try and reach man on how we were to live away from home. The product went through various branding over time and the original bun and patty even got expanded one day at one mountaintop location, to then be spoken of for centuries by the name of it's ten basic ingredients.
Time carried on and man took it upon themselves to add to the original ingredients with all sorts of condiments until it became one of those big sloppy things I spoke of earlier. Things were getting out of hand until a Company CEO showed up. He set the franchise straight by returning the product to it's original form of two ideals, the only ideals that were needed for salvation. He took the recipe back to scratch, and that recipe was more than enough nutritionally, and easy enough to prepare, in order to ensure salvation of those who had become obese on the newer products that man had stolen from that original recipe idea. Of course, as time went on, the people, being selfish as they were, soon fell back into having the original recipe tampered with, and before long and until this day the 'oversized' sloppy product has been the norm and the original franchise splintered into thousands of knock-offs.
God gave us two commandments, a simple recipe that covered all we needed for nourishment and survival. We could survive forever on those two commandments which were simply this. Put the will of God ahead of our own (don't change the recipe) and love all as self (if you want favour from God then you must show the same favours to each other regardless of who they are). We really don't need anything more than that, but in true human fashion man cannot help 'over-sizing' that original recipe, even to the point copycats can't even be made, it having become so complicated and undecipherable. This of course creates the unnecessary need for chef schools. These new recipes may look nourishing and tempting but it is guaranteed they will leave you with either a gut ache or hungry an hour later. Stick to the original recipe and ease up on the greed. Your body and soul will thank you.
