Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:

I was greatly encouraged to read this verse today, that I can come to the throne of God's gracious favour, not to a throne of judgement and condemnation.

to severely punish someone who has committed a crime, or to force someone to suffer:
