God Is Sovereign..

I am a firm believer in the sovereignty of God in the salvation of the sinner. This for two reasons. First, there are many Biblical evidences for it (Deuteronomy 7:6-8; John 1:12-13; John 6:37-45; Romans 8-9, etc.). Second, it alone is, and can be, anyone’s certain hope of eternal life. The word of divine election does preclude the word of human choice; yet it also underscores the word of promise.

There are many who would not have divine election. They insist upon the sovereignty of the sinner in salvation (his choice, his decision, his will, these are foremost). They would even suggest that God cannot be sovereign in salvation for to be so would mean that He is unjust. But let me ask such people this; Who deserves salvation from God? To whom is God indebted to save them? They must answer that no one is deserving, God owes no one anything except the rightful wages of sin which is death. If men receive more from God it is because of His desire to be gracious and give it, not because He is under any obligation (Romans 6:23)!

It is interesting that the Holy Spirit led the Apostle to speak of such people long in advance. Who are you to make reply against God? You are the thing formed, yet you say ‘that is not right’ to God who formed you? Does the potter (God) have a right to do what He will with His own or not? What if the just and righteous God does according to His sovereign will and for His own glory? Or, as the Lord Jesus remarks, is it not lawful for me to do what I will with mine own? Is your eye evil, because I am good? And, in conclusion, many are called but few are chosen (Romans 9:20-23 paraphrased; Matthew 20:15-16).
