I spent time this morning adding free books to my Kindle archives.
Yup, I'm an obsessed book hoarder. But it's harmless book hoarding because the books are free, and do not take up any space.
I first look for books in historical romance. I try to weed out any overly sensual ones and go for humorous, inspiring, and hopefully, historically accurate books.
I check either fantasy or mystery next. For fantasy, I go for the traditional, epic, and sometimes the funny ones. Fantasy is actually my favorite fiction genre, but it is harder to find the really good ones.
Mysteries are next. No serial killing! Those are out, though I would make an exception if I found something really special. In mysteries and thrillers, I go first for the archaeological thrillers, historical mysteries (I have a couple with Ulysses S. Grant as the sleuth, for example), and chick lit or cozy mysteries.
Then I check biographies and memoirs. I like to read correspondence of famous people, and I like to read autobiographies of historical figures.
I love getting free books from the history section, but there are not many good ones. Most of the bios and history books, and especially books on archaeology cost a lot of money.
I never know what I'll find for free among the Amazon free offerings. Recently I picked up Experience Angkor Wat, which goes into the mysterious history of the structure.
If ony I had had a Kindle when I was a child. Think of the worlds to get lost in!
