You think you are good at loving? Wait until you are really tested, would be my advice.
There was a terrible tragedy in the eightees in Australia. A 26 year old nurse was kidnapped by a gang of men , tortured, raped and murdered.
Can you believe that her father was able to forgive those guys? He used the pain of his loss to run support groups for families of victims of crime. To reach that level of forgiveness is truly remarkable in my opinion. His example reminds us that we need to forgive those who hurt us in much less dramatic ways. Daily insults that cause our ego to be bruised for instance. You know I haven't got past some tiny things like my brother did to me about 15 years ago. Just the way he spoke to me and grabbed a phone off me. I haven't forgiven myself either for not saying something to him at the time. That's another issue too. Sometimes we think we need to forgive others, when we really need to forgive ourselves.
I'm praying that I aspire to the level of forgiveness that guy achieved. Gary (Lynch?) was his name and daughter's name, Anita. I don't have kids but I think I would be absolutely shell-shocked, angry and depressed for a long time.
I haven't suffered severe abuse so I am not in a position to preach to anyone. All I can do is admire people like Gary Lynch.
