Did Jesus overcome the world?

Did Jesus overcome the world?

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” (John16:32-33)

Paul speaks of the basic principles of this world we are to overcome as the law

What I am saying is that as long as the heir is a child, he is no different from a slave, although he owns the whole estate. He is subject to guardians and trustees until the time set by his father. So also, when we were children, we were in slavery under the basic principles of the world. But when the time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under law, to redeem those under law, that we might receive the full rights of sons. (Galatians 4:1-5)

See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the basic principles of this world rather than on Christ. (Colossians 2:8)

Since you died with Christ to the basic principles of this world, why, as though you still belonged to it, do you submit to its rules: “Do not handle! Do not taste! Do not touch!”? These are all destined to perish with use, because they are based on human commands and teachings. (Colossians 2:20-22)

So what does that mean for us?

You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world. (1 John 4:4)

for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. Who is it that overcomes the world? Only the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God. (1 John 5:4-5)

So basically what it is saying is .. we overcome the world with faith or trust because the one inside us is greater than the miserable principles of the world (colossians 2) i.e. the law.

So what it says to me is .. people who seek to bind themselves under the law .. do not wish to be Christians . because Christians by nature overcome what the law is all about: the basic principles of the world.

it doesn't mean they aren't Christians .. it just means their actions and words are communicating that

they don't want to be
