I think we are challenged to become more mature in our faith by unbelievers. They may use every trick in the book to trip us up, look like hypocrites, fools with a sheep mentality who are only looking for "opiate" to cure our stresses and anxieties.
It's like dealing with difficult teenagers. I've never been a parent nor taught high school but I can well believe that teenagers stretch our patience. I was a typically unappreciative teenager who complained to his mother once "Hey I didn't ask to be born." Teenagers know they would rather be in the critics chair than the one who is actually putting themselves on the line.
Sorry to the well-behaved teenagers out there btw.
So unbelievers force us to think more deeply about our faith. We cant answer all their questions but we can take the opportunity to renew our own faith. Do I really believe? How strong is my faith? I need to dig deeper perhaps.
