(13) Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;(14) as obedient children, not conforming yourselves to the former lusts, as in your ignorance;
(15) but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct,
(16) because it is written, "Be holy, for I am holy."[3]
If we are to be effective leaders of our families, our jobs, our selves then we need to take the words of Peter to heart. To build an effective foundation we need to have the self discipline and focus that comes from the Lord.
Just as men of that day would tie up their loose robes so not to cause them to stumble as they went about their task, we too must eliminate the loose thoughts that may trip us up. We must be clear minded and base all our plans upon the grace of God and His imminent return.
We need to be obedient as a child to His calling, not trying to return to the life we left behind at His calling. We are no longer ignorant of the outcome of that lifestyle, so we need to allow Him to work in us to make us Holy as He is Holy.
For us as fathers, husbands, men, leaders called by God it can be summed us as:
Gird your mind, guard your hearts and guide your lifestyle, always according to His ways and in His strength.
