We all have social media, it can be on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat etc...
We all woke up and immediately checked our phones to see if there are any new notifications that we received.
We all went out with a friend and placed our smartphones on the table and we all went to the bathroom and stayed there staring at our smartphones.
There is a chemical response called Dopamine that we receive when a notification appears on our phones or likes that we received on a picture.
The scary thing is that dopamine is the same substance that comes with gambling and drinking alcohol.
I am not writing here to give you information about social media, I just wanna tell you about my experiences with it.
I quit social media a few months ago, including changing my smartphone with an old phone that can only call and text.
I felt like it is draining me and every time I felt bored or had some free time, immediately without noticing I went on my smartphones and started checking my social media.
Out with friends or just staying at home with my wife, My phone was most of the time in my hand.
Then one day while prying I felt like God is telling me that It is enough. That I am placing this social media above My savior.
I decided I am deleting ALL social media including even WhatsApp. And let me tell u, it is the best decision I have ever made.
Now every morning when I wake up, instead of checking status or notifications I am reading the bible.
When I am bored, I start reading a book or go for a walk. I feel like my head is so clear and without all the noise.
It was very hard in the beginning, I had so much free time now that I deleted social media, that I did not know what to do with it. I struggled, my imagination was very low because I did not really have to use it before.
But slowly slowly I started to use my imagination, I started filling my free time with useful things like going to meet a friend from church, walking and praying, reading one book every two weeks. My mind was clear and felt closer to God like never before.
When I am out on the bus, I actually take the time to enjoy the ride and nature around me. When I go to the restaurant gave full attention to the person in front of me and that deepened my relationship with that person.
It feels so good, and I feel so alive. You might ask, then how you keep contact with people and events?
well, I use text messages and Emails. I call or visit the person instead of just sending a lame message on WhatsApp.
I am not depressed or stressed anymore from the news or seeing people (happy) in pictures on Facebook. I started to live my own life.
I do recommend you to try it for a month and see how it works for you.
God bless you all.
