This is the process I utilised that aided me in memorizing entire books of the KJV bible, verbatim. I am posting this for private study and edification, but figured why not see if it can help others by explaining what will seem to be gibberish if not explained.
My favorite book of the Bible is James. That is where I started my memorisation of the bible some 20 years ago. That is where I will begin here also.
The trick is simple. James chapter 1 verse 1 is written like this:
James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad, greeting.
If you write only the first letter of every word it looks like this:
J,ASOGAOTLJC,TTTTWASA,G.
By doing this you give yourself a visual clue, but not the answer. You have to remember what each letter means to read the scripture, and you even need to read the scripture to write the correct letters. With enough practice, you can read this technique as if it was written out in full. Here is another example using a well known scripture almost everyone knows. John 3:16
Can you read it? See how it can help? FGSLTW, HGHOBS, THBIHSNP, BHEL.
Hope this helps, but at least you will understand why I am posting gibberish. It can also help to listen to an audio bible while reading this technique to learn the scripture, before memorization. But you want to be able to get to the point where you can read the technique as fluently as if it is written out like these sentences you are now reading. And ultimately, you want to get to the point where you can recite the scripture verbatim, by memory, without visual que. This takes a lot of dedication and effort. There are no shortcuts, but it is amazing to see how memorized scripture affects your life as it is brought to memory in real life conversation and situations. So it's worth it.
