Daniel. Life in the Babylonian Court.

Blog details

Life in the Babylonian Court.

The nation of Israel had turned from God and eventually was taken into exile by the Babylonians who were the rulers of that time. Daniel and his friends were selected for special training as they were of royal descent.

`The king instructed Ashpenaz, the master of the eunuchs, to bring some of the children of Israel and some of the king`s descendants and some of the nobles, young men in whom there was no blemish, but good-looking, gifted in all wisdom,

possessing knowledge and quick to understand, who had the ability to serve in the king`s palace, and whom they might teach the language and literature of the Chaldeans.` (Babylonia)
(Daniel 1: 3 & 4)

The King appointed for them a daily provision of delicacies and wine. These, however, were not according to Jewish rules of clean and unclean. Thus Daniel and his friends purposed that they would not defile themselves with such food.

Over time it was shown that the Jewish young men appeared much better than those who ate the delicacies.

God gave Daniel and his three friends -

`knowledge and skill in literature and wisdom; and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams.` (Dan. 1: 17)

So when they had finished their three year training they were brought before the King. He interviewed them and found that none were like them.

`In all matters of wisdom and understanding about which the King examined them, he found them to be ten times better than all the magicians and astrologers who were in all his realm.` (Dan. 1: 20)
