Biblical Numerology

What is Biblical Numerology?
In short, it's the idea that numbers in Scripture have symbolism attached to them. This is not to be confused with horoscopes, mysticism, hidden meanings or other worldly concepts of numerology that contradict the word of God. It could also be interpreted that numerical values in the Bible only hold symbolic value, and don't represent actual / literal quantities. However I don't believe this, and instead favor the concept that numbers in the Bible hold both symbolic and literal meaning.

However, numerical patterns and symbolism are not just limited to Scripture. They can also be found in creation itself, and reveal more of God's character and wisdom. In my opinion and based on my understanding, some of these values represent:
  • 1 - Unity & Oneness
    Examples:
    1. The Godhead
    2. The Universe
  • 2 - Division, Testimony & Confirmation
    1. Two witnesses (John 8:17, Revelation 11:3–12)
    2. Two eyes for depth perception
    3. Old & New Testament
    4. Gender
    5. Boolean / Logic (true and false)
    6. Jews and Gentiles
    7. Two olive trees and candlesticks before God (Zechariah 4:11 / Revelation 11:4)
  • 3 - Divine Perfection
    1. 3 "Heavens" (firmament of the sky, space and Heaven itself)
    2. Triune God
    3. 3-Deminsional space
    4. 3 gifts presented to baby Jesus by the 3 wise men (Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh)
    5. Jesus resurrected on the 3rd Day
    6. Lamb was inspected for 3 days
    7. Sign of Jonah lasted for 3 days
  • 4 - Physical Creation
    1. 4 Seasons (Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter)
    2. 4 Directions (North, Sound, East, West) / Quadrants
    3. 4 Letters in the DNA / RNA code sequence
    4. Jesus was crucified on the 4th Day (Lambs were to be inspected for 3 days, and sacrificed on the 4th / Passover)
    5. Jesus was born 4,000 (4 * 1,000) years after Adam
    6. 4 Gospel accounts
    7. 4 "creatures" before God's throne
  • 5 - Grace & Goodness
    1. 5 books in the Pentateuch
    2. Pentecost (5 * 10 = 50), when the Holy Spirit was given
    3. First 5 of the 10 commandments regard our relationship with God, and the other 5 regard our relationship with other people.
  • 6 - Man, Sin & Human Weakness
    1. Mankind was created on 6th day
    2. Men are appointed to labor for 6 days
    3. Hebrew slaves were to serve 6 years and be released in the 7th
    4. God labored / created the universe in 6 days
    5. Mankind must wait 6,000 (6 * 1,000) years until God's millennial kingdom is established
    6. Noah was 600 years old when he entered the ark with his family
  • 7 - Completion
    1. Men labor for 6 days and rest on the 7th / the Sabbath
    2. God rested on the 7th day
    3. God has a 7,000 (7 * 1,000) year plan for mankind based on dispensations
    4. 7 Jewish Feast Days / Divine Appointments
    5. 7 lampstands / spirits of God (Revelation 4:5)
    6. 7 seal, trumpet and bowl judgments in Revelation
    7. 7 churches mentioned in Revelation (possibly symbolizing 7 ages of the church)
  • 8 - New Beginning / New Life
    1. Start of a new week
    2. Circumcision on the 8th day of birth
    3. 8th / Last Great Day added onto the Feast of Tabernacles
    4. The New Testament was written by only 8 men
    5. Abraham had 8 sons total
    6. Jesus revealed Himself 8 times after His resurrection
    7. 8 represents Jesus, whose name in Greek adds up to 888
    8. 8 people boarded Noah's ark
    9. End of sin and rebellion after God's 7,000 year plan for mankind
  • 9 - Finality
    1. Both Jewish temples were destroyed on the 9th of Av
  • 10 - Law & Order
    1. 10 plagues on Egypt
    2. 10 commandments
  • 11 - Disorder & Judgment
    1. Tower of Babel described in Genesis 11
    2. Worldwide 11:11 Phenomena
    3. 11th hour workers (Matthew 20:1-16)
  • 12 - Divine Governance
    1. 12 Apostles
    2. 12 tribes of Israel
    3. 12 foundations stones & gates in New Jerusalem
    4. 12,000 (12 * 1,000) from each of the 12 tribes saved during the Great Tribulation
    5. 12 Spies of Israel
  • 40 - Trial / Testing & Probation
    1. Jesus fasted in the desert for 40 days
    2. The earth was flooded for 40 days and nights
    3. Israelites wandered the desert for 40 years (punishment for the 40 days the spies toured the promised land and returned with a disparaging report)
    4. Jews lived 400 years (40 * 10) in exile and affliction
  • 50 - Deliverance / Freedom
    1. 50 days from First Fruits to Pentecost (Counting of the Omer)
    2. 50 days from the 9th of Av to 29th of Elul (day before Rosh Hashana)
    3. Jubilee year (every 50th year) - canceling of all debts
    4. 50 years from 1917 (Balfour declaration) to 1967 (Liberation of Jerusalem)
  • 70 - Spiritual Order? / A Generation
    1. 70 elders were appointed by Moses
    2. Israelites spent 70 years of captivity in Babylon
    3. A generation of mankind is referred to as being 70 years long (or 80)
    4. Daniel's 70th week
  • 120 - Divinely Appointed Time of Waiting?
    1. 120 people died when Moses descended with the 10 commandments, but 120 people lived when the Holy Spirit descended with grace on Pentecost
    2. 120 years given for mankind to repent before judgment / the flood
  • 360 - Full Cycle?
    1. A Jewish prophetic year consists of 360 days (instead of the Gentile year of 365)
    2. In geometry, a full rotation consists of 360 degrees.
  • 1000 - Countless Amount / Dispensation?
    1. Jesus' millennial reign will last for 1,000 years
    2. Satan will be imprisoned for 1,000 years
    3. God deals with mankind in dispensations that last about / exactly 1,000 years each
    4. The term "thousand" is often used to specify a large, countless quantity - i.e. Psalm 91:7
