ATLAS SHRUGGED ROCKS! pt. 1: The Cast!

It does. I love it. It's absolutely insane, but I love it. And I'm going to describe the book in detail because many of you may not have gotten around to reading this book, mainly because it's bigger than all creation. It's huge. So I'll try to summarize it so, even if this doesn't persuade you to read it, you can still know what someone is talking about when they mention. This book once outsold the bible, and some surveys are still coming out saying it's more influential than the bible, so that's why it's important.

The one thing you need to remember when reading, "Atlas Shrugged" is that it's about Ayn Rand, it's author. If you see something strange happening, it's probably something that has deeply rooted psychological meaning to her.

Atlas Shrugged is the wonderful heart warming story of a New England man who finds out that a man who has friends is never poo.....Oh, sorry that's "A Wonderful Life" I get those two confused a lot...

Atlas Shrugged is the heart warming story of several people in a world gone WRONG! A woman who just wants to run her railroad! A man who just wants to be left alone with his metal! A man who just wants to control who can live in his neighborhood! Ah, it feels good to remember all the fun characters who have no basis in reality whatsoever.

The main character of the story is Dagny Taggart. I think. She runs a railroad as it's VP, the reason she's not President is because her whiny, incompetent brother Jim Taggart is President. Everyone at the railroad seems to know she's the one to go to when you want something done, but for some reason she doesn't try to become president and trim the fat. Got me on that. Anyway, the theme of lazy family members leeching off of a productive one is recurring in this novel. To understand this character, it really helps to just think of her as Ayn Rand. And it makes everything else make so much more sense later in the novel.

Anyway, Dagny's main romantic interest...er, one of her main romantic interests is Superman Hank Rearden. He produces Rearden Metal, which is a super strong metal that has all kinds of special properties. He's a self made man that is from what I can glean, Ayn Rand's idea of the ultimate man.

Remember what I said about lazy family members leeching off ot a productive one? Well, multilpy it by three. Hank's got a mother, a brother, and a wife, who don't actually seem to do anythng besides criticise him.

Next up is one of Dagny's loveinterests in the book, Superman Francisco d'Anconia, copper magnate and childhood friend of Dagny. He's also supposed to be a playboy, which in the novel translates to people calling him a playboy. He doesn't act a lot like the person Dagny knew as a kid. Thankfully, he doesn't have any family members.

Finally, rounding out our group of Supermen/women is John Galt. Who is John Galt? one might be heard to ask. And nearly every character in the book does open their trap at some point and say that . Here's the answer...*Spoiler alert* He's someone who said he'll stop the engine of the world. *Spoiler alert* He's also one of Dagny's love interests in the novel.... No, I'm not joking.

Also included in the group of hero's for this book is anyone who shows the remotest bit of intelligence. Those are the heroes.

Now on to the villains.

There are two distinct villains in Atlas Shrugged. The first is Dr. Robert Stradler. I'd describe what he does, but it's just far easier to say that he wants to do the oppisite of what the heroes want to do, only he tries to make an intelligent argument about it.

The other villain, well it's everyone else. Their all idiots who want to take what the virtuous heroes have managed to create with their master intellegence.

And that's the cast list. Look forward to my next post, where I start to get into the plot of Atlas Shrugged. Look even more forward to the legendary unreadable speech by John Galt at the end of the book! So boring, that legend is if anyone tries to read it, they become George Will

To lighten the mood, here's something you'll really enjoy. A summary of one of the seminal movies of the Twentieth Century, The Worst Witch. Here's a teaser from the gentlemen wrote the summary and grabbed the screen shots.

"Tim Curry. Charlotte Rae. Musical numbers. Witches. Pigs. Hard-boiled eggs. CHARLOTTE RAE. All in one movie."
