Exodus 17:8-16 is fascinating. It tells the story of the battle between Israel and Amalek. In a nutshell it says that Moses watched the battle from the top of a hill and when he held his arms up Israel prevailed but when he let them droop down Amalek prevailed. The solution was to set Moses down while Aaron and Hur held his arms up. This secured victory for Israel.
When I read this I thought about the spiritual battle that believer's fight (Ephesians 6:12) and how the Lord never intends for us to fight it alone. Even if we are a Joshua (strong in battle) we need a Moses, and even if we have a Moses, he needs others to help us properly. In brief we need the community of believers (pastor, elders, others) praying and exhorting us as one body that we might win out.
