3 Simple But Powerful Prayers You Can Pray Today

Praying has always been a fundamental part of Christianity. The word prayer (or a variation) is used over 300 times in the Bible, and when we examine the life of Christ, we see that he was in continual prayer and fellowship with the Father.

Prayer is how we intentionally communicate with the Father. It's how we seek His will. It's how we ask forgiveness. Prayer is critical in the life of a Christian, but it doesn't have to be complicated.

In fact, sometimes, simpler is better. Jesus says in Matthew 6,

"And when you pray, you shall not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray, standing in the synagogues and on the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. 6 But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place..."

So we don't need to be showy, just authentic. There are prayers for all types of occasions, but here are three simple prayers (yet powerful) prayers.

1. Prayer of Thanks

Father, your word says, "Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good, for His steadfast love endures forever." I give thanks to you, Father, because you are GOOD.

Even when the world is crazy, and darkness seems to fill the world, I can rest in your word that, ultimately, all things work together for good. Help me to praise you even when I struggle or when I feel weak. Help me to remember your goodness and the victory I have in you. Amen

2. Prayer of Forgiveness

Father, your word says, "Whoever conceals their sins does not prosper, but the one who confesses and renounces them finds mercy."

I seek your mercy and forgiveness now. I boldly come before the throne of grace to receive grace and mercy, and I ask your forgiveness. Have mercy on me, a sinner.

I turn from my sin and back to you, Jesus. Grant me the strength to stay close to you and follow you.

Help me to forgive those who have sinned against me, as your word says, "Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you." In Jesus' name, amen.

3. Prayer for Boldness

Lord Jesus, the last command you gave before you ascended back into heaven was to go and make disciples and to be your witnesses to the ends of the earth.

Many people do not want your love and do not want to submit to your lead, but many people still have not yet heard the good news of your forgiveness and salvation by grace through faith in your Jesus.

Grant me the boldness I need, so I am always ready to give a defense for the hope that I have in you.

People will not hear the good news unless someone tells them and that someone can be me. Help me to be faithful to your calling and live a life worthy of your gospel. In Jesus name, Amen.
