Why man and woman ?

Wondering why Yahweh created man and woman differently in terms of method:

"And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul." Gen 2:7

"And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; And the rib, which the Lord God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man." Gen 2:21-22

Anyone got any ideas?

My guess: so they would truly be one flesh, when they came together. They were each other's missing piece. (Even having half of a reproductive system attests to that.)

Those weren't two different methods as much as two different steps. In Genesis 2:7, God created both of them as a single entity. He only separated them in Genesis 2:22.

That progression [individual, then couple] can be seen in Genesis 1:27 ,

• "...in the image of God He created him;
• male and female He created them."

Paul kind of brings in full circle in 1 Corinthians 11, where he states in the initial creation that man was not created for or from woman, but woman was created for and from man (v8-9), but then demonstrates that even though woman came from man, all men since have come from women (v12).

This demonstrates a hierarchy in creative order, but one completely depends on the other for their continued existence. Personally, I believe we were created with such a hierarchy, not because one is ultimately better than the other, but to give us a living model of the relationship between us and Himself as explained in Ephesians 5. The comparison is made using our human model of marriage of a man and a woman to our proper relationship between Jesus and His Church.

Eph 5:22-27

Comparison 1: Wives, be subject to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, as Christ also is the head of the church, He Himself being the Savior of the body. But as the church is subject to Christ, so also the wives ought to be to their husbands in everything.

Comparison 2: Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for her, so that He might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, present to Himself the church in all her glory, having no spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that she would be holy and blameless.

While we are not in a position to criticize His design, we can further see His glory as we uncover more of its elegance.
