During his speech at the Coast Guard Academy Obama told the graduates about to deploy on station the greatest threat they would face was that posed by global warming.

Geez...

Global warming hysteria in 3 ... 2 ...

Updated NASA Data: Global Warming Not Causing Any Polar Ice Retreat | Forbes
The Earth has warmed modestly since the Little Ice Age ended a little over 100 years ago, and the Earth will likely continue to warm modestly as a result of natural and human factors. As a result, at some point in time, NASA satellite instruments should begin to report a modest retreat of polar ice caps. The modest retreat – like that which happened briefly from 2005 through 2012 – would not be proof or evidence of a global warming crisis. Such a retreat would merely illustrate that global temperatures are continuing their gradual recovery from the Little Ice Age. Such a recovery – despite alarmist claims to the contrary – would not be uniformly or even on balance detrimental to human health and welfare. Instead, an avalanche of scientific evidence indicates recently warming temperatures have significantly improved human health and welfare, just as warming temperatures have always done.

Would help if the author wasn't insanely biased. He even states in his article that there was a retreat in global ice caps, despite earlier claims there wasn't. And one of his other articles uses the cold eastern US winter as evidence against global warming.

This guy is a hack.

The data shown displays a slow downward trend in ice coverage.

The graph of the data used in the Forbes article actual shows a decline over the years mentioned.

global.daily.ice.area.withtrend.jpg

I went to the site that has this graph, Arctic Climate Research at the University of Illinois does not interpret the data the same way as the person who wrote the article. Of course, this graph includes global sea ice, not just Arctic sea ice.

The difference in interpretation is unsurprising.

The author of the article, James Taylor, is a senior fellow at the ExxonMobil funded Heartland Institute.

Why is it that whenever there is a new article posted on this forum disputing the consensus on climate change, it is always so easy to link it to vested interests? (That's a rhetorical question).

Oh, please. What is the Coast Guard going to do in response to this idiotic speech, put to sea and hunt for warming trends? Interdict illegal trade in carbon credits? To the faithful the religion of global warming is sacrosanct, I know, but the Coast Guard has a direct mission which doesn't need to be fouled up by overreaching zealotry. First NASA, now this.

Seems to me the Coast Guard is going to be the first branch of the military directly affected by the climate change.

Indeed. They will have to move some of their bases inland after the rising oceans flood some low-lying areas of the country.

"Updated data from NASA satellite instruments reveal the Earth’s polar ice caps have not receded at all since the satellite instruments began measuring the ice caps in 1979."

Where are the charts?
Where are the graphs?

Next.../ the chants that this thread doesn't belong in politics...

This is cute, since climate change deniers are the ones who've made a religion of denying it's existence. :D

It's amazing how you guys keep trying this lame ploy, when it's so obvious that your side makes WAY more money on the global warming scheme. Talk about vested interests!

No it doesn't. It started at 1 and ended on 1. it's changed very little, and after dropping slightly has recovered.

In Britain all the main parties pledged to act on climate change. There is little between them on this issue. You might even call it .... a consensus!

Shock news: The renewables industry makes more profit than the fossil fuels industry! Alert the stock markets.

I'm still waiting for the climate change alarmists to explain how the last ice age ended without the help of human help (factories, SUVs, people breathing, cattle raising, etc.)
