The problem is religion - when it pertains to no more than a belief system or errh's into legalism. We have a relationship with Jesus Christ, it's not so much being set free from religion, but being set free from dead legalistic tradition, not that we should continue in sin that grace will abound but that we walk in the freedom we have in Christ.

What dead legalistic tradition is someone who never went to church set free from? Is it sin to go to a church that has dos and donts?

It is not a sin to go to a church that has do's and don't's. The Bible is our guide book, we don't add to it or take away from it.

It is Jesus who has set us free Being religious is just simply going through the motions to appease ourselves and God by keeping certain religious customs and following rituals. These customs and rituals can be practiced by people who may even think that through those rituals they will guarantee an entrance into heaven.

That is the extreme side of things, but some churches are not flexible in any way to move from the status quo

a hymn
a prayer
a hymn
a bible reading
a hymn
offering
hymn
20 minute sermon- a congregation are up in arms with the pastor if the Lord gives him a 25 minute sermon
a hymn
benediction

Where is the room for the Holy Spirit to move?

Is there room for someone to bring a word of prophecy? Is there room for prayer ministry?

Some churches that are very fixed in those things are full of legalistic attitudes, never touch alcohol, maybe KJV only, and may even have rules written down for members to adhere to.

There are so many left in the slavery of legalism and not operating in the ability and freedom of the Holy Spirit.

To be free means knowing who you are in Christ and moving in that freedom.

The Lord Jesus Christ paid the price for our freedom, he died for our sins, to set us free from the penalty of sin, to give us a restored relationship with God the Father and we have the Holy Spirit to guide us into all truth

Greater is He that is in us than He that is in the world.

We are free but we are also servants or slaves.

Rom 6:22 But now having been set free from sin, and having become slaves of God, you have your fruit to holiness, and the end, everlasting life.

We are not free to live without the fruits of the Spirit and the greatest of these is love. But He has set us free from the law

Rom 8:2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.

Gal 5:1 Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage.
