Salmon and egennesen the Boaz by the Rachab Boaz and egennesen the Obed by the Ruth Obed and egennesen the Jesse
And Salmon egennesen Boaz by Rahab, and Boaz egennesen Obed by Ruth, and Obed egennesen Jesse;
Here is Strongs dictionary definition of
egennesen (γεννάω
:
From a variation of
genos; to procreate (properly, of the father, but by extension of the mother); figuratively, to regenerate -- bear, beget, be born, bring forth, conceive, be delivered of, gender, make, spring.
Putting
egennesen into english is difficult, I don't like the word "begat", it's not a modern english word. No one says begat. Conceived seems a little bit, well, personal. I used "produced" before, but I'm not really happy with that. Produced by Salmon, directed by Rahab, that seems too "Hollywood."
NASB uses the phrase "to Salmon was born Boaz", this kind of avoids the issue of what to do with
egennesen, and it's a little stilted, don't you think?
Is there an active verb in modern english that means
egennesen? I'll leave egennesen in the translation, you all know what it means.
