A quarter of Methodist congregations in the U.S. are leaving the United Methodist Church as one of the country's largest Protestant denominations wrestles with issues of sexuality and gender identity.

More than 7,600 of United Methodist’s approximately 30,000 congregations had voted to leave as of this week, and the number could grow as the Dec. 31 deadline for departures approaches.

“It’s the biggest schism in any American denomination in the history of our country,” said Ryan Burge, an associate professor of political science at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston....

Controversies have been brewing within the church for several decades, particularly those dealing with LGBTQ+ issues, Wilson said.

Progressive factions within the church, he said, want to overhaul church teachings to, for instance, permit same-sex marriages and allow the ordination of gay clergy....'

I think every avenue is being employed to bring the churches into full apostasy. If it's true that it is only about a quarter of the churches that left, it shows the extent of the damage done.

I almost hate to ask what seems an obvious question, but what does "full apostasy" say re: the timing in the calendar of the ages? Doesn't AD70 say something about the extent of God's patience with rebellion among His People? Or does this say more about the narrow gate and way vs. the wide one, and/or the darnel vs. the wheat in the pews? It doesn't seem to bode well, but what does it bode?

Which side is leaving?

Obviously, the progressives are leaving. What a stupid question.

I was wrong. It is the conservatives who are leaving.

The author of the article accidently revealed the answer right near the very end of the article. Marc, the author, fell and hit his head or something, and useful information came out.

The church is so corrupted at the highest levels that the conservatives have to leave is shocking to me. But should I be shocked? Probably not.

At this time in history? No. It's to be expected. It's happened again and again down throughout human history. The devil has always taken the majority, but God has always had a remnant.

falling away (apostasia): a falling away, defection, apostasy; defection from truth (properly, the state) ("apostasy"):—falling away, forsake.

In my post I said, "I think every (corrected the missing y on every) avenue is being employed to bring the churches into full apostasy." By full apostasy I mean full compliance and alignment with false doctrine and false worship. That is not to say that people can't be saved from within these churches, I'm speaking of the organizations that are leading the congregations into apostasy. The papacy, the United Methodist church...what comes next?

Satan has a major foothold in churches with the non-Biblical day of worship. That in itself is staggering, but to see the United Methodist church embrace sinful abomination, to the point of losing a quarter of their churches, is still shocking to see (even though I shouldn't be shocked, it is prophesied). It makes me wonder what else is going to happen in the churches before the end. In the lead-up to the Seal/mark, we're seeing the churches being divided into two main groups—the majority in apostasy to varying degree, and the remnant.

It's not only main line Protestantism that this is happening to. It's also in Adventism, We now have gay ministers and those who reject Ellen White;s writings. She predicted this would happen. Here are a couple of quotes from Last Day Events.

The shaking of God blows away multitudes like dry leaves.—
Testimonies for the Church 4:89 (1876).

Chaff like a cloud will be borne away on the wind, even from
places where we see only floors of rich wheat.—Testimonies for the
Church 5:81 (1882).

Soon God’s people will be tested by fiery trials, and the great
proportion of those who now appear to be genuine and true will
prove to be base metal....
When the religion of Christ is most held in contempt, when His
law is most despised, then should our zeal be the warmest and our
courage and firmness the most unflinching. To stand in defense of
truth and righteousness when the majority forsake us, to fight the
battles of the Lord when champions are few—this will be our test. At
this time we must gather warmth from the coldness of others, courage
from their cowardice, and loyalty from their treason.—Testimonies
for the Church 5:136 (1882).

The history of the rebellion of Dathan and Abiram is being
repeated, and will be repeated till the close of time. Who will be
on the Lord’s side? Who will be deceived, and in their turn become
deceivers?—Letter 15, 1892.

We are in the shaking time, the time when everything that can
be shaken will be shaken. The Lord will not excuse those who know
the truth if they do not in word and deed obey His commands.—
Testimonies for the Church 6:332 (1900).

Thanks. I missed that you're involved in SDA. Honestly, from some discussions with others and from reading some of the SDA manual recently, if I had noticed this is an SDA thread section, I wouldn't have wandered in. Bowing out...

Where I live which is in a blue state, any church that goes woke goes broke. Now I didn't realize this was an SDA section and I'm not SDA. However, my Lutheran church is still doing well. Yes, its harder to bring in the younger generation. But the traditional Lutheran churches still have it going and refuse to go woke. They are more then well prepared to handle addressing the issue. And if indeed SDA churches can survive this woke moment then more power to them. But what I believe is going on is the weeding of the churches. The woke movement seeks to destroy churches altogether. They want to ban Christianity and will ban it soon if Democrats win the next election. Socialism is their main objective which has its roots in the occult. Regardless of what happens I'm keeping my conscience clean and voting against the madness of planet progressive. I'm voting Trump who does not attack our rights to attend Church. The best any of us can do is to just continue to do what is right.
Now Jesus mentions the great falling away in Matt.24. I believe that this prophecy began its fulfillment in 2005.

I am not an Adventist, but posting in fellowship, as someone who grew up in that denomination, I wanted to say that I agree entirely with your concerns on this issue.

Do you know of any SDA churches which have openly gay ministers or have made statements contradictory to normative SDA doctrine and the teachings of Ellen G White on human sexuality or other issues?

Its even worse than that I fear. I would argue that the conservative Methodist parishes are being extorted to leave. Its been the most abusive homosexual takeover of a denomination I have seen, worse even than what happened in the Episcopal Church, and its in open violation of the UMC Book of Discipline and the Traditional Plan adopted at their last general conference in 2018.

Yes. In California there are several churches that like that and some back east. Some conferences have banned conservative SDA pastors/evangelists from preaching in their conference.

I will pray for you as I find that gravely distressing.

Thank you. I pray for everyone on these forums and for those who just lurk but don't post as we all need the mighty benefits of prayer. I don't know who they all are but God does and I trust Him to keep track of them all.
