(AP) NEW ORLEANS A Louisiana justice of the peace said he refused to issue a marriage license to an interracial couple out of concern for any children the couple might have. Keith Bardwell, justice of the peace in Tangipahoa Parish, says it is his experience that most interracial marriages do not last long.

The bathroom comment gives it away. It might have been vaguely progressive fifty years ago. It's just shamefully indicative of someone with their mind in a racially segregated past now.

I love it when people go 'my friend's black/gay/Muslim/black gay Muslim' as if it makes them any less bigoted. It doesn't.

On a personal note, I'm currently in an interracial reltaionship (I say currently; every girlfriend I've ever had is black; black women certainly are the most attractive in my opinion), and things like this really shun the supposedly 'free West'. Luckily, events like this are as rare as the sale of Hitler busts in the UK, so I needn't worry.

He's concerned for interracial children? lol He's probably worried that interracial children might grow up to be president one day, because as we all know, Barack Obama is interracial. His dad's black and mom's white, and he's successful.

When I was in USMC there was rarely anything ever said about white guys & asian girls, but if it was ever black/white it was a problem...it seems to only be "racial" when blacks are involved (in my observance anyhow..)

That has been my experience as well, truth be told.

My grandparents refused to attend my brother's wedding (something they fully regret now but it took a huge family tragedy for that to all come together) but had no issues when my cousin married a mexican immigrant. Even THEY admit the double standard!!
