Yes the democratic party used to be socially conservative and racist primarily in the south, but things change governments change, parties change. The republican party has taken up that position post civil rights it also should be noted that David Barton is not a legitimate historian, rather a Christian Nationalist who misrepresents history to argue for a theocratic state.
I suggest you look up the Republican Southern Strategy. Bascially, before the Civil Rights movement Dems were broken into two groups, social liberals and social conservatives (the Dixiecrats). The civil rights movement was supported by socially liberal Democrats and opposed by the Dixiecrats. Similar lines were drawn in the Republican party. After the dust settled ofthe Civil Rights movement the Dixiecrats wanted to split from the Dems and the Reps welcomed them (the Southern Strategy) as a result many socially liberal Reps switched to the Dems. This is why the Civil Rights movement marks the switch from Dems being a southern/rural party and Reps being a northern/urban party to the exact opposite.I am saddened by the misreprensentations the media has given certain races of people. I am saddened that there are some many falsehoods within the media that has been taught.
