what about this that is not my opinion but fact [except the part about being blind part;)]

I think what you guys are missing in this story is that she could have gone with a private insurance company that would have provided the drug for her.

Unfortunately the problem is that a private insurance company probably would have never accepted her because of her pre-existing condition and if they had it would have cost her to the tune of 5-10 thousand a month. If she could afford that she would have been better off just paying cash for her scrip and keeping her FREE state coverage.

Look people you are the ones who are blind here. You obviously have no clue as to how expensive and non existent private health insurance is for people who have long term/terminal illnesses. This is because most of these people already have government provided insurance[medicare/medicaid], because they can't afford and can't get private insurance.

In this case the state couldn't afford to pay for such an expensive experimental scrip for someone who was only going to live a few more months anyways and brought this sickness upon herself by smoking her whole life. It was more productive for them to put it towards something else. instead they offered to make the rest of her stay here on earth as comfortable as possible through either drugs, or if she chose euthanasia.

Another thing that I didn't read in this story is that the pharmaceutical company ended up providing the experimental medication to her free of charge. The pharm companies promise that they will continue to do this to the tune 80 billion dollars worth of free medication to people if the public OPTION passes.

ahh yes, the government using their muscle on insurance companies and banks, instead of its own people, and not protecting its corporate intrests( money enslaves so many) would be great(but will never happen) additionally obamacare will cost people MORE $, because you will your premium as normal, then your taxes will increase to pay for his "reform" so in the end the same people will be getting your money, and more of it to boot

REFUSE, RESIST, UNITE, PERSIST, stand up for your rights, how has apathy worked out thus far?
Okay, just to find out everyone's stance on this issue, what do you propose to be done?

The woman could not afford the Private Insurance because she is poor. The state provided her with Insurance. Should Oregon had left her to battle her cancer with no insurance? Or should the state had provided her with Insurance, which they did?

Oregon is the only state that has an assisted suicide law and the cost for that would be $50 as compared to $4000 for each month which the drugs help her to live, which is projected at about 6 months.

Should be state increase taxes to pay for the cost to all patients who need all drugs needed for every illness? Or should their Health Plan be dropped and everybody in Oregon be left to fend for all their own insurance needs.

In this case, she would have died years ago.

Man Dies After Insurance Co. Refuses To Cover Treatment - Health News Story - KMBC Kansas City

People get denied cancer treatment on government ran health care and on private health care. If government ran health care schemes earn themselves the title of 'death care' because a woman is denied cancer treatment which would only extend her life by two months then what on earth do you call the health care plans offered by private insurance companies who cheerfully deny treatment that would extend life by years?

What do you call a health care industry that forces dying people to fight and fight and fight to get their treatment covered? Sometimes it's too late - they die having spent their last months fighting with their insurance company to get treatment covered
