• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Hi everyone: I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia in 1996. No medicine stops the pain. The only thing that eases the pain is overall application of heat. The best way I found was once in a jacuzzi (sp). It felt so good when I got in that hot water, that I slid all the way down to my chin, with tears of joy. I pray to some day be able to buy a home, and install a hot tub! My body hurts too bad to feel like doing anything. I wake, feeling like I haven't slept yet. It hurts to lie down, just as much as to sit-up. Of course, it hurts to exercise too. After being shutdown at home for four years, and resulting from much prayer to God for a solution, I was inspired to just go ahead and get busy in spite of the pain. I cringe, wince, jerk, and regroup from unbearable pain, constantly, but at least I'm doing something besides suffering at home, being miserable. I feel that I am accomplishing something great every time I get dressed and leave my apartment, even if just for an hour. I ask for prayers, and pray that this information will help someone else.

My prayers are with you Victory... I know that it is hard and am glad to hear that you are up and moving about despite the pain. I don't know if you have a store called Academy Sports (or some kind of store like that) around you. We were able to buy a portable hot tub (it is actually inflatable) and I can't tell you how helpful that that has been for me. It might be something that you can look into. Or if you can get out of the house a little and get a membership at the YMCA--they have hot tubs and steam rooms there that might be able to help you.
Like I said I will pray for you that you will get some relief! :prayer:

Hi. I can relate to you. My doctor ordered Physical Therapy for me and I was in too much pain to do it. Then he ordered an epidural block. He prescribed 3 of them and today I feel much better. I was in awful pain in my upper back, shoulders, arms, and shoulder blades and my upper leg. I'm happy for you that you are going on with your life but maybe a doctor can help you like mine helped me, just an idea I'm throwing out there.

Dear Lily00: Thanks sweet Lily for your prayers!

Dear One Day at a Time: I'm in an apartment with low-income, but I pray to rise out of that, and into better status in the near future. In the mean time, I'll check for 'Y' facililities in nearby counties. Your suggestions are much appreciated!

Dear RuthD: A neighbor just told me last week that she had epidural injections for back pain. I have to pursue this possibility for myself, now that you're mentioning it too! About physical therapy--I'll be honest with you. I don't like surprise bills! When I go in and pay my co-pay, I'm good. But when I get hit later with additional billing for unpaid insurance balance $500 and up--there's something wrong with that!!!

 I hope you will be able to not be suffering through some means. PT did not work for me and it may not have worked for you since you are in terrible pain like I was. I understand the bills, too. :doh:May the good Lord heal you.:crosseo:

I go in for a fibro test on December 30th. My chiropractor said he thought I may have it. My husband researched it online and we discovered that I have more than half of its symptoms. I came to this forum looking for not just information on it, but also for support. I went to physical therapy but I quit going because I couldn't tolerate the pain it caused me. I have been to doctor after doctor. I'm at the end of my rope with the pain. I'm a stay at home mom of seven children and I homeschool. I need prayer. I need support. I need someone who understands what I'm going through right now. I can barely walk anymore. I'm using a cane to help me walk now. I can barely drive anywhere anymore. I know the Lord said He wouldn't give us more than what we can bare, but I do feel like I'm at my breaking point. I can't sleep unless I take a pain reliever. The medicine the Pain Specialist doctor I'm currently seeing prescribed doesn't work. It doesn't even take the edge off my pain. I'm tired, irritable, frustrated and depressed. On top of this, I have a ruptured disk in my lower back, hypoglycemia, arthritis and asthma. I've also been diagnosed with bipolar. I must admit that all of this does have me. :(

Hey ya'll! I have fibro too along with several other chronic medical issues that give me pain. I can't do hot tubs because they make me hotflash. lol
I have tried meds and physical therapy but they don't really help either. The depression has gotten really bad because I am so housebound and exhausted. (I too can't sleep)
However, God is good and we just have to encourage each other and lift each other up in prayer!. AMEN???

I'm praying for you dear ones. We suffer with a highly-misunderstood pain disorder. Chronic pain that for most, is not alleviated with pain meds. For some, it has taken years to be diagnosed, and they went through many trials of MRI's, CT Scans, X-rays, and medications.

Amen, Anneliese1, we must lift each other up to God in prayer. God has brought us all together to relate in ways nobody else can, but the Lord. We can be a support to each other, with the sharing of information in what we're experiencing, without fear of being told that we're imagining our many complications, and by the grace of God, we can find ways to be functional in our lives, in-spite-of the pain.

((((((thoughts, prayers and gentle hugs))))))

30yrs with fibromyalgia and a host of other aliments that come with fm & aging. it has disabled me, which triggered deep dark depression.....and so on.

recently realized a funny thing though, God has given me a worshiping heart.... when depressed, exhausted, in excruciating pain... unable to think clear enough to pray.....yet the Lord enables me to give thanks. i'm blessed, thank you Jesus.

once athletic, active in church, worked 2 jobs, raised 2 boys and very active outdoors woman. now severely limited, i'm learning new ways to enjoy the things i love in a different way.

there is a good day here & there, there are poor days and super rotten days. just so happens this week has been super rotten but, today is a bit better.
Glory be to God!

In Christ love~

I too can identify with this.....(add an accident with major neck and back surgeries) and it is so true....you learn to enjoy things differently and can rejoice in those things!
God's grace is sufficient and I have found that to be so true. To also deteremine to rejoice and praise God through all things! I have to determine this daily and am sorry that you are going through these things as well....but know that God's plan is perfect.....even in those bad days!
 to all of those out there that are suffering!!!!

How are you doing now VictoryVision?

how is everyone else doing? you are all very kind, God's love shines through your words.

seems many with FM are or were type A personalities. may have experienced an injury, accident, trauma or/and history of abuse.
me- childhood abuse, several accidents/crashes on motocross bikes, snowmobiles,etc...didn't help i'm sure, but... i sure did enjoy riding :) and hopefully will ride again someday...just not as fast & careless..lol.

Love in Christ~

As a man, I am in the minority of those who suffer with fibromyalgia. I continue to work at a hospital (how ironic) where I've been employed for 23 years. What has gotten me through the worst times are medications. Lyrica and xanax are my mainstays. Without them, I don't know where I would be. Truth is, there are days and nights when I feel so badly that I would much rather be taken "home."

Have you tried the guiafenisin protocol? This treatment is very strict in regard to what one eats (very low carb) and does (wear gloves when doing the lawn; do not touch leaves or grass), but the ingredient one is instructed to take can be found in, and is sold under the label of Mucinex. However, it is suggested you purchase the guaifenisin from the Del Ray Pharmacy in Callifornia due to its purity, and not from your local pharmacy.

Althougth there are many success stories with guaifenisin, I tried the protocol, but could not stay on it because I deal with Eustachian tube dysfunction and the constant ridding of my sinuses of mucus caused me the most intense brain fog, or as they call it, "fibrofog." The protocol can be learned on Fibromyalgia Treatment Center / Guaifenesin Protocol You are likely more able to try it.

Whatever is in your future, I wish for you the best, with less bumps in the road and more brighter days ahead.

Compassionately,
David

hi david,
thanks for sharing your story as well as what is working for you.

lyrica messed me up the first time i tried it....thinking of giving it another shot as the pain continues to worsen. right now i take 90mg cymbalta, flexaril, lunesta or ambien cr, provigil, laxatives for chronic cons., and vicodin once in a while....coQ10 and a multi vitamin.

musinex? very interesting, i'll look into that this week. i believe dr amad is located in fl., i've read about his protocol for many years....far too much for me to handle or maintain.
do you have good doctors that help with your fibro?. i'm in central fl. and have yet to find a treating m.d. that is proactive and on the forefront of fm studies. shoot, even to find one that believe in FM would be nice.

wishing you wonderful & pain free week.
