Welcome to the forums! To get a character you will need to post to get blessings (or do quizzes, donate to the site, or recieve as a gift from someone). Then you may use the blessings to buy the character and clothes for them. You can see this in the armor tab above, next to bank, and pets.

The forums are active at different times. Nothing beats cruising around to check them out. It takes a little while to get to know the site, but you'll get there sooner than you think. To take a quiz, click on Quiz at the top of the screen. You need to have at least ten blessings to take a quiz though.
