Just to think about. I helped out at VBS (vacation bible school) today, and they put Jesus sacrifice in a great perspective for the kids. Think about it this way.

So they gave a quick lesson on bullying and what bullies do, etc.

And they asked the kids this:

Think of someone who you love, a person, whether it be a parent, spouse, friend, etc.

Then ask yourself if you would be willing for them to die, just to get rid of all the bullies and people that upset you. So basically, would you let your mom or dad die, just so there would be no bullies in this world?

Thats exactly what God did for us with Jesus Christ.'

Just a thought.

God Bless

"People that upset you"??? Really? Forget about loved ones! Would you even let a stranger die just so you wouldn't have to be "upset"? That is the most self-centered idea that I've heard in a long time.

First of all, Jesus VOLUNTARILY died for us.

Second, he did not die so we wouldn't be upset or even "bullied". He died so we can be washed clean in order to make ourselves presentable to the Father.

The "church" where this lesson was being taught is nothing more than a humanist social club.

Maybe, or they could just have been trying hard to bring it to the kids and just failed like we humans tend to do.

I remember talking with my Sunday school teacher once about something in the Bible. I was new to the faith and didn't have a firm grasp on all of the dynamics of the scripture we spoke about. So I said something wrong and he made the comment "What god are YOU following?!"

Being a young Christian and very much in love with God (as I still am today) this statement cut me very deeply. I felt as though the one thing I held sacred had been attacked. Indeed it had been. I couldn't speak for fear of tears for several hours until I finally was able to tell him how badly that hurt.

We need to be careful with our words...because causing harm to a little one in Christ is bad enough that Jesus says it would be better for us to be drowned.

Although I do agree with BryanW92 in that this may not be the best way to explain it I think I see your point. It was a great sacrifice that He paid for those who did not deserve it.

However I think it may have been better to explain it by saying those bullies would kill you. The bullies are like sin. Sin is why we die. Jesus came to set us free from that bully by taking our place and letting the bully fight him instead of us.

That may have been better. That way you could explain that Jesus wasn't setting us free from problems and being upset. It was death because of sin He set us free from.

But don't forget to tell the rest of the story...Jesus lives again.

We are just trying to teach kids. We aren't perfect, and neither are you. Please keep to yourself if you feel this way. Keep in mind we are teaching preschoolers, not albert einstien.

The goal was to simply show how Jesus felt when He died up there on that cross. He took his life for people who could care less about Him. He took his life for people who think He committed blasphemy. We just wanted to give the kids an idea of how great of a sacrifice it was that Jesus Christ gave us.

Please keep it to myself?? Really? Do you know how forums work? Did you post this only to get praise?

I don't have a problem with using a sacrifice analogy to teach about Christ. The problem is that you created a scenario where you are asking children to sacrifice someone else to make them feel better. That's not teaching them about Jesus. Its teaching them selfishness.

No there is no need to insult my church. You could of said this originally.

As I said, the scenario is meant to simply show the little kids how big of a sacrifice God gave us, giving up His only son for us, for everyone.

Indeed it was a great sacrifice. I understand the intentions were good. I was just giving a thought on how to give more information than just how big of a sacrifice it was. But like I said, I am glad someone is at least trying to bring these things to the level of the kids.

Ah, yes I see. It can sometimes be hard for kids, and even adults, to understand things that God does. He does things in Holy ways, not earthly ways, so occasionally things like this are appropriate to help us understand in earthly terms so to speak.
