40 House Republicans have now gotten Boehner to give up the speakership and for McCarthy not to seek to be his replacement.

They make believe that 40 congressmen in some way speak for their party or the Republican electorate. They are a small minority of the Republicans in the House.

Now that they have caused all of this, there was no problem at all getting a continuing resolution, instead of closing the government. Cruz was not even allowed to speak in the Senate. The debt ceiling increase will likely sail through now. After all, 40 votes won't convince anyone of anything. The best that these wing nuts can hope for now is that Ryan will accept the speakership and negotiate a better budge than Boehner would have negotiated (which he will). But make no mistake, this would mean giving all their power to Ryan. Their 40 votes won't be enough to blackmail him.

And BTW, a patch improving ObamaCare was passed without comment or much debate, a minor change to help small businesses. An Iran resolution has yet to come to the president, even though everyone seems to be willing to accept more sanctions on non-nuclear issues. And finally, the trade deal will now come to the Senate and will likely be ratified.

Yup, as the Tea Party Gang of 40 flex their muscles the most, they simply show how small a minority they really are.

At least you got 40 who are trying to do what they promised their electorate. The rest are cowards, and have drunk the Cool-Aid that the Democrats have been giving them, that they are better than everyone else, and to hell with the country. I find it sad that 40 men and women actually representing their constituents are considered extremist, while the rest who constantly lie to get elected are consider normal, by extreme leftists.

As far as I can tell the only guy who might be able to win the speakership on GOP votes alone Paul Ryan.

But Paul, God love him, being the Any Rand Objectivist that he is will probably not take one for team. He knows taking the job will almost certainly kill his chances at higher office and mess up his plans to put his "Altas Shrugged" economy in place.

Why should he spoil his chance just of the party ?

I really believe that the non Tea Partying GOP in the House is going to have no choice but the cut a deal with the Dem's, share power in the House and bypass the "Freedom" caucus.

This will, of course, put the split in the GOP in concrete and maybe even, if the GOP is lucky, cause the Tea party to form it's own party.

Where they can die a slow death like the Independence Party and we can forget this national nightmare.

Yes the 40 are doing what they promised their electorate, those represented by the 40 congressmen.

Curiously, Democrats are willing to work with Ryan on the budget, as long as none of the 40 open their mouths and waste everyone's time.

Ryan isn't happy. Cantar was supposed to be the speaker. He couldn't win his seat in Congress. And now, McCarthy won't run. There was never anyone but Cantar who could have gotten a majority of the vote.

A few Democrats might even vote for Ryan, if that is what it takes to have a speaker. After all, Ryan is the choice of the vast majority of Republicans, and the Democrats believe that they can deal with Ryan.

That's really not so, although it makes for a good line. Just about every one of the Republicans in the House ran on the same themes and so did the national Party in its advertising, etc.

The 40 or so who are convinced that it's going to be disastrous for all of them--not just their own number in the Freedom Caucus--if they don't show some willingness to stand up for what they told the voters they'd do when campaigning for election actually have the interests of the entire Party in mind.

If I was the Democratic whip I'd have all 188 Dem's vote for Ryan.

As a Strategic move it's likely to end his political career.

It should be disastrous for Republicans to follow the course that they have been on in Congress.
This is not what the people who voted for them elected them to do.
It is a tell that the people that really appreciate what the Republicans are doing, and hate what these 40 are doing, tend to support the non-conservative causes in other areas.

You are free to believe that ALL Republicans in the House went into districts from Montana to Maryland and campaigned on the same platform. That isn't true, and if true would truly be an awful commentary on our form of government.

It would indeed which is why he doesn't want to be speaker. Given the idiots in the party, he also didn't want to run for President.

There are 40 congressmen with a unified agenda that elected those 40. Other districts elected Republicans with different view, and yes those their views are not in tune with the sacred 40.

So these men who are doing what people voted them to do are in your opinion extremist, for upholding their promises, while the rest who made promises but failed or refuse to carry them out, are just normal folks?

Yeah it's a obvious that only the Dems think that the Repubs have been doing a good job.

There might have been some slight variation; but nearly all of those who got elected promised to fight against Obama on immigration and Obamacare. Only 40 have upheld their promises. The rest have just shown they are no better than Democrats, who constantly promise things and never fulfill their promises.

If you believe that all Republicans back the 40 on immigration, I can only assure you that your are wrong. Many, many Republicans backed the immigration legislation that was blocked by the 40.

With regard to Obamacare, it is true that all rejected this essentially Republican plan. We'll see if this even an issue in the next presidential campaign. BTW, you do know that the present Congress stopped their ridiculous approach, and passed legislation to improve ObamaCare. Everyone knows that there are issues. Only the 40 are obstructionists.

But now, everyone understanding exactly who they are and what they stand for. They are 40. Many, many Republicans agree with them. But not enough to elect a president.

There was no shutdown; Cruz didn't even speak on the budget. There will be an increase in the debt. And in December, a budget will be passed without a shutdown.

By large that is quite true--and the major news media have said the same thing.

Of course, there are different local issues and not every last candidate emphasized the same issues in the same way; however, there is no question but that the policies the "40" want and are frustrated at not getting, are the promises made by the Party itself and the Republican congressional candidates across the board.

Yep we get it Mark, as long as the Republicans are following the Dems lead, you are good with them. Since these 40 are under the crawl of Dems such as yourself, makes them heroes.

The 40 are free to do whatever they want.

I wouldn't want them doing other then what they want to do. They are the most self destructive politicians I've seen in over 50 years of following politics.
