The pastor may have some work to do.

"
A church member tapped Braxton on the shoulder to tell him the seats he was in were reserved.

Another couple put down two Bibles to save their spots before walking away.

Braxton replied to the tap by saying: 'Don't ****** touch me!' according to court documents.

Kevin Steele said Storms approached Braxton, showed his carry permit and asked him to leave.

He added that Braxton punched Storms, who then fired two shots.

And that's what happens when you let people carry guns everywhere.

The only way to stop a bad churchgoer with a gun is with a good church goer with gun.

But seriously, who reserves seats in church??
More importantly, who carries a gun to church? Must have some pretty weak faith in their God.

There are occasions where a person may reserve seats in a church, such as if they have family down and so need a minimum-sized pew if they are all to sit together.

Alternatively, a person may - as the article indicates - simply set their stuff down to hold a seat before walking elsewhere, such as to the bathroom.

That being said, the minute the person flashed his concealed-carry permit he needlessly escalated the situation to the point of no return.

It varies from jurisdiction to jurisdiction and denomination to denomination as to whether or not guns are even allowed inside a religious facility.

Texas, for example, actually has it that it is illegal to concealed-carry in a religious facility (church, mosque, synagogue, et cetra), and a person can lose their permit for doing so.

Likewise, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has requested that anyone who is not in the protective services (police, military, bodyguard, et cetra) leave their weapons in their cars.

Now, I understand that after the Charleston shootings there are people pushing to have CC laws amended so that people can carry inside of churches. These pushes may have even succeeded in a few jurisdictions, but not all of them.

Agreed. Who flashes a gun to settle simple disputes? In church, no less?! This, I would say, is a very dangerous individual who should absolutely not have a gun.

Yet, here we are.

A dispute over seats in church, so let me show you my carry permit.

Both points taken.
Let's just Google "man with gun in church saves lives" and see what happens..

God rest the soul.
I happened on one of those TV court cases a few weeks ago where there was a lawsuit over something similar in nature about saved seats at a church.

Only no one died. Rather, a man was punched out in the parking lot.
Reality TV programming. Jerry Springer has been programming moronic behaviors for decades. This is how people handle upset now. They get violent over the stupidest things.

Pathetic and sad. Looks like someone missed the entire point of their faith. And who brings a gun to church anyway?
June 17th, 2015, I'm sure the congregants of Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in downtown Charleston, South Carolina, would have praised God for one of their number getting the drop on 21 year old Dylann Roof before he opened fire on them.

But wait. This happened at Keystone Fellowship Church. A few people there don't get the meaning of fellowship. I think a couple of volunteer bouncers could have handled this. Or maybe the pastor should have stepped in. The poor couple who were saving the seats must feel a little bad at this point.

cue Topol: "Tradition!"

Oh, I've been in churches where struggles of reformation and counter-reformation proportions have been fought over the flower-rota, or who contributes which course to the Harvest Festival supper, or runs which stall at the church fete.
And should the minister/organist dare to introduce a couple of new hymns not approved by the organist/minister a cold war was in the offing capable of producing liquid helium.

Sitting in the "wrong" pew or row of chairs was just one major error open to unwary newcomers...
